Yes, it was discovered in Texas, right outside Jonestown.

I believe it's a notch. Shape and location and it's visible on both sides of the axe head. The notch is crusted with rust, however the cleaning should clear it up. What do you need from the store :icon_scratch: All you need is salt water and a charger. The notch is crusted as this axe head I'm currently cleaning.

The notch is only on one side of the ax. It is a piece of the rock or a discoloration that makes it look like it is on both sides, but it is only on one side. It actually only goes about 1/4th of the way through the blade.

I agree, it is a notch, but it doesn't go all the way through.

Just took it out of electrolysis after 6 hours, and here are the pics. Yes, it is a notch.

Your axe head cleaned up nicely :icon_thumright: It still could have some good age to it eventhough there's a notch. Any other finds from where the axe was recovered that possibly could help date it? I like the axe it's a neat relic :icon_sunny:

It likely is old, but did the early trade axes not have round holes for the handle placement? Factory made ax handles were likely not to plentiful in the areas were the trading was taking place. I think the really old trade axes had round handle holes for utilizing tree braches as handles?
