✅ SOLVED What is this brass ring?

Found this on a historic property here in west Chester Ohio. I pretty sure it's brass. Maybe part of a horse bridle? The house on this property was known at "the twenty mile house" in 1806 because it was 20 miles to Dayton by horseback. The spot where I found this is where horse drawn wagons pulled up and stopped on the way to Dayton.

Could be part of a broken snaffle bit. It has a lot of wear on one side which could have been where the rein attached.

I'd say it's a horse hitch. It could be iron as brass would have a greener patina.
EDIT: Bronze is a possibility.

its not a hitching post ring... so the "marked as solved" is moot.

Based on it's size, my first thought was a drawer-pull. But this notch cast into the mount is something I've not seen before.

Rein guide that attached to wood.

The wear is evident that it has been worked in one direction.

So that would discount a hitching post ring as the horse would have pulled only in one direction.

The back has a knob which would sink (when tightened)into the wood preventing it from turning.
It was fastened by a bolt that ran through the wood into the back section.
