What is this copper or brass jeweled star? An old x-mas ornament or?

It measures 3.5" x 3.5" I found it in the trash & did not clean it in anyway. The center star appears to be a different material upon close inspection, maybe tin, & the very center piece seems to be the same material as the outer part. Has 4 small "rhinestones" & 4 larger rhinestone in red, blue, purple & green. It has a loop at the top for hanging it from something! I question the ornament thing because of the attached loop at the top with the ring attached to it that wouldn't be necessary on an ornament. Anyone?

Most of the Christmas ornaments that I have seen are decorated on both sides. It looks like it was attached to something or it could be a broche that was fixed by means of a post or pin clip. I might help is you post a brighter photo, especially the reverse side?

I don't think it was a Christmas decoration either. It looks more like something a fraternal society or order would put out which is missing the center stone.

Brighter pix... No stone was ever in the center

I see, the pin on the reverse is tying the center jeweled piece on. The one clue that I see is that it has loop and ring that seem to point to it being hung on a necklace, I'll call it a medallion.
