"WHAT THEY DID WAS JUST WRONG AND TODAYS FINDS"

Hi all ,i went to a cleared block today and some-one had all ready been there.This how they left the site after they had left. >:(

.I known this totally wrong and what can i say.

i spent a bit of time filling their holes but theres just to many.Only had about an hour of light left so i had a quick swing.Found a silver-plated lid and then the rest of an ink well i think,lead soldier[no stand],button and a 1948 3 pence .there a pic of the mess left by others and then my finds.

Those guys must have been cache hunting with a backhoe . What a mess . HH

WELL TINPAN, I AM NOT HAPPY WITH WHAT THEY DID, BUT WE ALL HAVE TO WHACH EACH OTHERS BACKS.IT WOULD BE VERY SAD IF SOME ONE SAW YOU THERE AND SAW THE HOLES THEY DUG. YOU WOULD BE IN BIG TROUBLE, THAT WOULD SUCK . BUT WE HAVE TO DO THINGS WE SHOULDN'T AND DON'T WANT TO DO NOW DAYS. I HOPE YOU BE THE STRONGER MAN AND SHOW THEM THE RIGHT WAY.ANY WAYS YOU DID VERY GOOD , AND VERY NICE FINDS FOR A SHORT TIME HUNTING. GOOD LUCK FINDING THE TREASURE...

Congrats on the finds Tinpan - that was nice of you to fill in someone else's holes. That stuff give the hobby a bad name.

That happened to me Phantom, I was hunting in a park of a local town and was trying to cover up someone else's mess, Big Holes left uncovered, when the park manager came out and told me to get out. I asked why, but I knew the answer. I told him I was trying to correct what someone else had done, but he would have no part of it. I had found a few silver coins by the time he made me leave.

A week late I was hunting a park, which I had hunted several times and I caught the guy who had made the mess at the other park. He was digging big holes and leaving them open. I asked him if he had ever hunted in a park in the other local town and he said yes, just last week. I told him what happened to me and he said, sorry bout your luck. What a DUMB AS* I told him, it's guys like you that make our hobby look bad. Bad thing is, he was digging a hole you could have put a cow in just for a dime, and when I checked the whole he was digging the new coin was right on top of the ground. I never forgot this guy and I told many people about him. Hope his bad reputations gets around!

Thanks for the post Tin, and Thanks for being one of the good guys. We need all the help we can get, in making our hobby look good.

Some nice finds. Congratulations.

That "mess" doesn't look like the work of a detectorist. You sure it wasn't from some construction?

I've run into the same situation here in an area where a lot of houses have been torn down. I was the first to hunt it and last night I saw 8 guys out there swinging detectors, a couple with shovels digging big holes and leaving them. What gets into someone who would do that I'll never know. Just plain stupid I guess? Monty
