I havent searched enough qtrs to know but I can tell a proof half and a proof dime just by rim checking- they have distinct rims

that's nice, I only do quarters when the bag on the coin machine fills up, I haven't found a proof quarter yet, but have gotten several gold plated and silver plated (p&d) quarters.

Nice find, I'm still looking for my first state proof quarter. I found a clad 1992-S proof last year. It stuck out like a sore thumb.

I've found plenty of proofs by edge searching. Halves, dimes, and quarters. The rims are much wider and very distinct looking.
