My hobby of 40+ years should NOT require me to walk blindly into a "firefight", or any other type of trouble to where I must become a "victim. I am out detecting with no malice toward anyone. Never had to give a thought for many years to even think of needing to carry. Not so much anymore. There are a lot of morons running around loose out there with out supervision we might say. I am in my 70's, I know I can be easy prey?, but then again we ALL can be easy prey. When I go detecting in parks and or the woods, I will not be a victim, I will not give up my detector or wallet or whatever, and I will not give up my hobby because I must be aware of "them", perhaps they should be more aware of me by thinking twice. I carry a 38 S&W snubby, in my carry pouch with the handle grip exposed. There have been a couple of times I was mighty glad I had it with me. Perhaps "They" should give up the possibility of walking into an armed citizen while having bad intent on their minds. I am so weary with the "many" having to bow to the few. I have carried 44mag when I had a claim, (bear), but never encounter one. When I started that short period of life, an old guy told me that a .357 should do you ok with cougars and such, but never under estimate a bear, better to be over gunned that under gunned. Now, I do not always carry all day everywhere, it all depends on what I am doing and where. For many years after my discharge, I did not shoot or own a firearm, Today? I like revolvers, very forgiving, pull the trigger, they fire. Enough from me.
