What's the best 9V for Tesoros

Greetings gents
spring thaw is around the corner and i'm doing some final research for a new season
i'd like to know what 9v battery works best for Tesoros. I own a Vaquero and have only used for about 50 hours since buying it over 2 years ago, but I've never had a battery last the quoted 20 hours in the owner's manual. I've gotten at most 9 hours out of a new Duracell 9v, with headphones attached, in a rural, trash free site. The factory shipped Panasonic Industrial lasted a bit less, and I've never tried Energizer. Any particular preference and why?
Also, I was considering a buying a rechargable 9v and a charger, but i'm pretty sure those are not alkaline batteries, and Tesoro says to use only alkaline batteries. Would trying rechargable anyway damage my detector?
Thanks for the imput

It may not damage the detector, but it also might not operated correctly...... I tried Lithiums which last lots longer than Alkaline amd the detector went crazy.

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

I've only used Energizer.

I usually get 3-4 hunts (6-8 hours each) before I have to put in a new one.

Ray-O-Vac alkaline and Energizers. Plenty of time on each brand. If the manufacturer suggests to use alkaline type batteries, I use alkaline. I figure that the design engineers know what works best for their circuits.

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

I know in my DFX the Energizer lithiums worked fantastic, about 25 hours. with my Etrac
it doesn't start up correctly with them, so I dropped back to Energizer Max

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

I use Energizers in my Cibola. They seem to last a bit longer than anything else I've tried.

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

Energizer. Haven't had a reason to try anything else.

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

Rechargeable 9v batteries are NOT 9v. They actually put our approx 8.4v so I doubt they will work properly in a 9v detector.

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

i use dollar store batteries in my golden umax and they work great. they are panasonic heavy duties. linda

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

Find a store that carries Energizer Industrial 9v and buy them in the 12 packs. They are the best I've found. If you have a local Motion Industries they can get them. That's where I get mine.

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

I feed my Eldorado Duracell an Duracell only .

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

Appreciate the advice guys; I've also used Duracell up to this point, but seeing the majority vote for Energizer, I will give those a try next. Does it matter if it's Energizer or Energizer Max; here in Eastern Europe I can only find basic Energizers and from the plain look of the packaging and battery design, it seems to inspire less durability in every customer's mind than the shinny Duracell design.

Also, have you guys also heard of Varta batteries? Someone told me they are very good and are also more expensive than Duracells and Energizers. I've never heard of them before; any ideas or recommendations?

Thanks

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

I cannot get more than 12-14 hours out of a Duracell. It seems my Cibola can go a little longer with an Energizer. However I hunt mostly in very trashy areas, so the batteries do get a work load.

I've got a rechargeable NiMH 9v battery that puts out 9.6V. So it can go either way (lower or higher than the nominal 9V value). You could probably contact Tesoro and ask them directly if either of these rechargables would work.

I've also been buying a lot of my alkaline batteries at my local Harbor Freight store when they go on sale. I can't really tell you if they last longer or not because I haven't had a chance to really test them due to the weather. But the price is certainly right when they are on sale. For example, I picked up 24 AA alkalines for $4.99 (regularly $7.99) last month. They had 4 9V alkaline batteries for $4.99 as well which is only $1.25 each. That's about the cheapest price I've seen so far. From what I can tell they are pretty good batteries. But you want to wait for the sale price and then stock up on them which is about once every couple of months.

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

I read a review on the Harbor Freight batteries. The reviewer said they last just a bit under what top brand names do. 24 AA @ 5 bux is sure cheap enough to find out.

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

I ONLY USED DURACELL OR ENERGIZER
IN MY CIBOLA

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

Duracell, the printed battery life in the manual is someones dream. My Vaquero starts getting unstable at 3+ beeps on the battery test.

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

All i ever feed my Toltec II sence the day i bought it is Duracell....get about 22 hrs on 8AA not bad for an older machine

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

energizer industrial only!

Re: What's the best 9V for Tesoros

I use Duracell in my detectors (Compadre & Tiger Shark). They seem to do well.
