Whats the best Pinpointer? Minelab Pro-Find 25 or Garrett ProPointer? HELP PLEASE

.
Pro-Pointer is self adjusting, when to be used on highly mineralized ground, touch the ground with the tip before switching it on.........it will now ground balance (reject).
This procedure is opposite of super tuning which can be done after the GB step if prospecting for tiny gold pickers.

Haven't used the Garrett but have the ML Pro-find. Here's my main complaints about it:

1. Four-hole speaker clogs with dirt/mud and silences the audio.
2. The audio is only medium loud - turn the speaker away from you and cover it with your hand and put it in a hole, and its hard to hear
3. The vibration is only medium - with gloves on and a loose grip it is hard to sense
4. The ON/OFF button is a bit small and can require a few attempts to push, which is frustrating as it is turned ON/OFF constantly with use
5. Don't need a volume control rocker - never need to turn the volume down (if I did just cover the sound hole)
6. Should have been a bit longer - another few inches would help with those deep narrow holes
7. Has decent depth and sensitivity to small targets. But for the cost it should be more than a few inches.
8. Pinpointer sheath is too flimsy a material and folds when inserting the pointer. Also, sits too high on belt - should be lower. Bad design.
9. Should be water resistant or waterproof. Removing dirt in the field from the speaker hole would be easy if it could be washed. Now its about impossible.
10. It shouldn't cost any more than the Garrett since it is not viewed by most to be any better

From the sounds of it, minelab pinpointer isn't as good as the Garrett?

Mine is malfunctioning after less than 3 months!

I have the Garrett Pro Pinpointer and wouldn't take anything for it!

Sent from my iPad using TreasureNet

Sweet send it to me i cant turn down a free 1

I have both the ML and the Garrett, and some of what Jackalope stated holds true except I have never had any speaker issues or fault with switches. The ML has never had to be returned and has 5 times the hours as the Garrett which has been returned twice in the same amount of time. I have taken friends detecting and provided both pointers in the tray to be used and by the end of the day I notice that the Garrett stays in the tray and the ML is being used extensively.

The Minelab Pro-pointer speaker will clog with mud - and after that the audio is gone. The audio is hard to hear at the beach as it is, put some wet sand in 2 of the 4 speaker holes and it's about useless. The speaker placement is the main problem. The second is the on-off button is small and with gloves on it sometimes takes several attempts to turn on or off.

I have the Vibra Probe and the Minelab Pro Finder and agree 100% with Jackalope on all points. I'd like to add one additional "Con" to the Minelab Profinder and the Garrett Pro pointer. I don't care for the fact that the Pro Finder and the Garrett Pro pinpointer are shaft sensitive. I like the Vibra Probe because, it's longer and it is "Tip Sensitive". I like them both but given a choice I would like to see the Minelab change to a "tip sensitive" probe. Just my opinion based on my personal preferences. Others may prefer it the way it is. The Vibra Probe also has a stronger vibration with No noise and shuts off automatically. That being said, I'm currently using my Minelab Pro Finder.

Little bit late, But I say Propointer

for 2 Reasons

#1 Cheaper then the Pro-Find

And #2

I haven't had a chance to try the Pro-Find Because Too expensive.

My nephew had to send his Propointer in for replacement shortly after We got them.

and My Propointer had gone bad on Me, & I had to send it in for Repair
Lucky for me it has a 2 year warranty, So it was free & off season.

So yes there are some Bugs,

but again If $$ Matter I say go Propointer .

If $$ are no Object Consider Sun-Ray inline Target Probe

I've had the Minelab now for a couple of months and can't fault it, the only time it acted up was when I failed to screw the battery cap on fully, I have also owned the Garrett and it also was a good unit, both do what is claimed by the manufacturers and do it well..... is the minelab worth $40 more, time will tell

I second that. I will be returning my malfunctioning Profind in the next day or 2, haven't even had it for 3 months! I taped the speaker hole when I first got it and never submerged it in water and only rinsed under running water like instructions say. I got a good deal on it new but still disappointed.

Yes if I buy a NEW Pinpointer or probe it will be a Sun Ray or Propointer. Just bought a used Profind here from a member as I want to have a pinpointer while I send in my malfunctioning Profind good for short notice!

True I had a Vibra probe but didn't like the huge size and the fact that it didn't seem that sensitive BUT it never malfunctioned on me.

I have a hard time setting the Profind to just vibrate without the sound, but I do have the speaker hole taped so it helps some.

Before the Minelab Pro-find, I used the Vibra-Probe 560. I like the fact that there was no sound - just vibration. I liked the extra length (about 5" beyond the Pro-find). I liked that it was waterproof. The only part that was disappointing was the sensitivity just wasn't enough. Couldn't be sure to find the target unless the tip was right on top of it.

Vibra-Probe 1/2" on quarter (broadside to probe tip)
Pro-find 1-1/2" on same quarter

Have the newer Vibra-Probe models improved their sensitivity? Anybody have one to test on a quarter? Kinda curious.

More function on ProFind such as sensitivity adjusting. Alarm mode changing and alert for long time stand by. So I think the ProFind is the best Pinpointer. But Propointer meet most peoples need.

I bought the pro pointer when it was released and have never had any problems at all. The secret is to use it as a pin pointer. Not ramming it into holes and digging with it or getting dirt into the speaker holes.

No...but waterproof!
