I think you just need to loosen up and forget about the need to evaluate the quality of other people's posts or their motivation for posting. Lots of good responses, and that is what the "like" button is for, and you skip or speed read the rest. Personally this forum is my favorite and I love how topics sometimes meander in all different directions.

No can do. We live so far out that we can't even get a land line telephone. ...And you want us to get CABLE?? :tongue3:

All we have is cellular. Not even satellite wants to work here for some reason. Satellite TV will, but not satellite internet. Go figure!

This will help.

I am retired living in Connecticut. I also do not get out much. I enjoy reading interesting and some are funny, and writing also interesting and funny comments to make members happy. I am not interesting in what class member that I am, since we receive no payments. Good hunting and good luck.

I just took a huge cookie sheet out of the oven of "chips & cheese"... close enough to nachos!!!

I use this site to explore what others have found, or what is it and then General discussion. I use it for humor, being serious, requesting help and for sharing some of my personal therapy. But rest assured 85% of my posts / responses are not of value. It's just me being me. Many of us here are connected by our personalities and witty responses here. I've backed off a lot lately but share and respond to things that interest me most now.

You make good points Susan. We all have our "hot buttons" for one
thing or another, which in my case is spelling and punctuation. Poor
spelling and eternal sentences used to drive me bonkers, but I finally
came to the realization that, for the most part, it didn't really matter
so long as I understood what was written. In short, I kept my cranky
opinions to myself, and got over it.

Why does poor spelling, etc. drive me nuts, you ask? I haven't the foggiest
idea. My own spelling and punctuation are often suspect, so it's not like I was
an English major who's picky.

My best guess is that's it's from those Catholic nuns that taught me for 7
years at Our Lady of Corporal Punishment. Those women dressed up as
penguins were downright evil, in particular one old one, Sister Nevergotlaid,
(she was a never nun) got especially irritated over spelling mistakes.

Speaking of "Likes" (I like Likes), they are a great way to say "Thank You" to
the author of an especially good, or helpful post. You can look at a persons
Profile, and learn a lot about them. One poster to this thread has been a member
since 2007, and in all those years has only given out 15 "Likes" to other members,
while others have only been here a few years, and have given out many thousands
of likes.

Does giving out more "Likes" make you a happier member?

Ever notice how these topics increase in the winter?
You can have tropics or you can have topics. When tropics, folks are out detecting and such. When there's topics, nothing to do but make more topics. :laughing7:

This will help.
Not unless there's a few more rolls! :BangHead:

Works for me!!

Was trying to figure out how to write this earlier, then chose not to try. BUT......

I'm kinda with you on the spelling/punctuation thing. Don't know why. Even "I" didn't think I was paying attention in Grammar class!! :laughing7: But mainly, when I say something, I like to be understood. Growing up in Texas, I could tell in an instant what part of the state someone was from just by the way they talked. There were (for me) 5 distinct dialects; N, S, E, W and Central. And even within some areas there would be different meanings to a phrase, etc. One of my greatest pet peeves (and it really is a DRAGONOSAUR!!) is when people don't even make a complete sentence. I listen to what they say, but it simply makes no sense. So I have to ask them to repeat. ...Gee, I'm married to just such a person! :tongue3: Anyway, I'm long-winded because I don't want what I say to be taken other than how I meant it. Doesn't always work, but oh, well! ...Come to think of it, it doesn't work a LOT of the time!! ....Maybe I'm having a personality crisis?? :dontknow:

Sometimes there really are days when I shouldn't turn this dang PC on, or even get out of bed! Cause no matter what I do, no matter how hard I try, my words just are NOT gonna come out right! So have gotten to where I will often hit the 'like' button and not say a word. It lets someone know that they were acknowledged and that their post was appreciated, all without having to stick my foot in my mouth....again! Yes, it still happens, though!

As for the number of likes, I've given out 5,289 of 'em. I've received 3,407, and I have 4,113 posts....make that 4,114! :occasion14: Not too bad for being a member here for 9 1/2 months. I have nobody on my Friends list, but that's by choice. Kinda irks me when I have someone on my list who later goes off in a different direction, and I'm sitting there trying to figure out, "Should I leave it there or take it away?" So on this forum, I'm just making it a point to keep my life philosophy intact - that everyone is my friend unless they give me damn good reason not to be! As someone else said, life is short. I'm not having a Friends list, which is one less thing for me to stress about. 8-) ...And for anyone who might have read any of my posts to that dude who thought he was a real live dead person, I'm really not that thrilled with life, in general. When my time comes, I'm gonna be awful happy to punch out. However, I ain't doing nuttin' to make it happen any sooner!!

Ok, I'm done now - go get some coffee. ...Except for you...yeah, you - in the 3rd row - don't raise your hand and wait, just go to the blame restroom, for cryin' out loud!! :violent1:

Hey, Dizzy, I had that same Catholic education through 8th grade, can't argue with your assessment.
