I see lots of old coins on Todays Finds, all the time. I'm wondering where YOU get most of your older coins.
Old houselots?
Old crop fields?
Old foundations in the woods?
Battlefields, etc.?
Other?

I know research plays a big role in where you go from day to day, but are there spots that just call to you?
My uncle has a dairy farm, passed down from my grandfather. The cornfield across the road from the farm
has been calling to me. I found a toasted copper two years ago, but haven't had too much time to get back
there. I just know my oldest silver is waiting for me there. Anyway, where do YOU find old, old coins?

Old schools and old parks....Don't forget to work the roots up against big trees .Chances are that years ago someone rested their back against the tree and those pockets emptied..Listen for those whisper like sounds from the detector....

You will never see me in a park, on the beech or on some ones nice green lawn, well just one maybe, it was the site of the early settlers 1812 time period, British and american troops, other than that old farm sites.:4leafclover:

I'm from out west in mtns.I focus on old mining, ranching and logging camps.Often I will see an area that just looks inviting for a picnic or camping site and have done well on those too.

Sidewalk tearouts are by far my favorite. Its all about getting there first. Our town is not that old but most tearouts are stamped 1909 1910 and 1911.

Old foundations in the woods .....

of course if all these ideas fail you can always put on an extra hundred pounds, plant your finds, sell junk for thousands and yell,"BOOM BABY"when you find the 5k saw blade.makes not getting silver coins easier.

jus kiddin....you will get em....hang tough

1) Old ballfields
2) Older county parks
3) Trashy old spots where people have gathered. The trashier, the better! Most detectorists avoid trashy spots, and these are the places I seek out. The old coins lay in wait...

A good friend or relative that lives in a really old house.
I grew up in an old house (1800s)my mom doesn't live there but still owns it .
I've pulled out goodies since I was kid and still do

By the way will it hurt my detector if I use it in a cellar with a dirt floor.(yes it has a house over it)

I've used mine in an old cellar. I actually found a 1941 Washington!!!!. It shouldn't be a problem as long as you have permission and don't go undermining the foundation ha.

As long as there's no water, then your detector should be fine.

Thank you it's moms house so she'll probably have me arrested. Happy happy hunting

In the woods near water, lakes or rivers. Never have I seen coins like we have been finding from these types of locations.

I find my older coins in local parks and 7-10" deep or more.

I just came across 2 old school bus stops about 3 miles from my house, that were use from the late 40's to the late 60's,I've dug over $5 in nickles and pennies at one.:icon_thumright:
