well I think I am a pretty good fisherman and have won some coin here and there.

But there isn't no one that is honest that can say he hasn't been skunked before

I seen some of the best come it with empty livewells so hold you head high

You coulda won that new boat Bobby. That guy who won it had caught that fish saturday, so he had all night of no sleep wondering and worrying if someone was gonna bring a bigger one in...I cant even imagine how that must of felt. Well yeah i can too, but i wasnt in the winning for a new boat when i got first place that year in the womans division. Only thing i worried about was having to get on stage infront of a thousand people....makes my heart race just thinking about it. I can imagine how he felt knowing he was in the running for a new boat. I woulda stroked out for sure.

lol yeah be kind of hard to pull two boats home unless like the BASS events they give you a ceritficate and you have it made in the colors of your choice

I dunno if it's been said yet, but:

Live crawfish, hooked through the tail - tossed into the vegitation and allowed to kick around, very slow retrieve, BIG bass! Wait for just a moment after the hit... then SLAM the hook home.

I dunno - always worked for me.

nope...nothing...

They had drawings for prizes sunday, i think they did anyway, but it was hot, we were tired and i didnt feel much like sitting under that big ole tent with a 1000 hot sweaty people. lol (trust me on that one)

Thats a good idea Jim...cept you cant use live bait during the bass tournament, sure woulda made things alot easier if you could i bet. I'll try the live crawfish when we go fish my father inlaws tanks this weekend, if i can find some.

Hubby and i have got to get busy catching some cat fish for our annual Cat fish cook off. Not one bag do we have in the freezer. And we live an a lake!

yeah I am so hot and stinky myself after being out all day that if I am not in the money I pack up and leave myself. I beat there was a crowd as Skeeter cancelled all it's other tournaments and focused on this one.

I tell you another one if you all ever feel like road tripping is the BassPro Shops tournament at Cedar Lodge MO

It is fun, beautiful and anyone can win as it is also biggest fish.

I have the number for the place at Lake Fork

Thats sounds like sooo much fun! I would love to go there! Maybe one of these years we can go to that one. That would be a road trip...for sure.

There were 1600 intries this year Bobby, a couple hundred less than what there usually is...im sure the economy had something to do with that.

The good folks at the motel were kind enough to let us keep all our stuff in the room and take a shower after the tournament was over. Not many of them will do that for ya.

The other place we used to stay at, check out was at 11 and you had to be out of there by then, so if none of us caught any fish, we would load the boat, run up to the room and take a shower real quick before we headed home. nothing worse than having to make a long drive all hot and sweaty. I refuse to do that if i can help it.

I catch all mine on a 4 1/2 inch dark watermelon red metal flake or light melon pepper Wacky Worm.

I use a 3/0 porko hook and I have no problem bringing them in.

As long as you own a Skeeter Boat you can enter NGE. Or..if you know someone who owns a Skeeter Boat you can enter the tournament with them.

I think, and dont quote me, i'll have to ask hubby for sure but i think the entry fee is $100.00 a person, now im not sure, but i'll find out for ya tomorrow.

Yep Lake Fork..have you ever fished there Jeep? Sis in law fishes with the Wacky worm and thats what she catches them on. Her favorite Lure. She took 3rd place till someone bumped her out using the wacky worm. Ive never tried one, nor have i ever tried the pork hook....have to check it out...thanks.

Trish is right the boat must be a skeeter, you must have insurance on it like liability,
cost is 80 or 120, the 120 gets you a new Kissler rod too.
other rules like wear a life jacket while motor is running etc

Skeeter has a tour which is in Texas mainly and it like others have a regional and national event
the one Trish was at is the annual Skeeters owners tournament I think this was the 7th

your can go to Skeeter Boats and they will have a link to it

remember one thing bass are more "sight" oriented -- and big fish eat other fish and big items --just like a 350 lb truck driver does not want "finger sandwiches" -- but rather a slab of ribs with a big side of coleslaw & baked beans and cornbread and a gallon of sweet tea --- most of the time a big fish wants a big meal -- however if they see to much fishing"action" (pressure) they can tend to get leery --so try "down sizing" if that seems to be the case --- rubber crawfish and frog baits --if they are a local food scource do well as do rapalia minnows and various "life like" finish type plugs and spoons and jigs for deep water.

The main thing I catch is catfish here and I've had good luck with shrimp and my cousin has had good luck with stink bait.
I've heard shad (dead or alive) is good for catching bass.
Usually I just use worms to fish, I am not much of a lure fan.

small cats stink bait --med size shrimp but for the big boys --a live hand sized bream --(if legal) is hard to beat -- big catfish eat other fish . big cats are alpha class preditors --- spoken as a $5,000 big catfish contest winner ( catch bubba catfish contest--2000) and a state of florida "big catch" channel catfish specialist award winner ( 5 channel catfish over 31 inches in length -- with photographic proof and witnesses to sign off on it submitted to the state )

I almost caught a gar with shrimp.
I was a pullin' and a reelin' and it got away and when I got my hook out of the water it was straight! The dang gar straightened my hook!
Another time I went fishing with just worms and I didn't know much about fishing and I had this real big catfish and I was just reeling it in fast trying to get and it broke my line. My grandpa said it's best to reel in a little and let them swim away some and let them get tired and then pull 'em in. We didn't have very strong line.
