Well.. im not sure what the date for the tournament is next year Bridge, because they changed the date this year...See last year they had it earlier than they did this time. So we'll just have to wait until they announce it. But you can go ahead and reserve your room just tell them its for the Skeeter Tournament, im real sure its gonna be in June sometimes.
What i wouldnt give to have it in Sept or Oct.

you talked about big fish like big bait..i had remembered you saying that while i was there, so we went to a tackle shop and i was looking at the big bait...they wanted 20 bucks a piece for those suckers! Needless to say i didnt get one...sure wanted one though....think i'll just look at walmart.

Jlb...nothing better for catching cat fish than some nasty ole stink bait...Even though it will burn the hairs in your nose...its the best thing ever. Your almost guaranteed to catch a fish with it.

Sure wish someone would do an "Aquarius" Tournament. I own and enjoy my 10 ft. Aquarius Aluminum john boat, I have a 55lb. thrust Minn-kota for power. Planes at half throttle. I bought this boat in 1971 for 50 bucks, brand new from Munky Wards. And I wish the tournament to be held on a lake that does not allow gasoline motors. Kinda gives everyone a chance. I can catch biggies just like the guy fishin' from shore. And I don't need no insurance, haven't run anyone over yet :headbang:

well trish the 3 reasons the "big lures" at the local tackle store were 20 bucks is ------ #1 big lures tend to catch big bass -- #2 big lures do not sell as much or as often (only highly knowledgible and skilled folks targeting only very big bass use em)--so the cost of keeping them "in stock" is higher since they do not "move" as much as everyday "normal" lures do and #3 your shopping during a "contest" time --- a peak time to charge overly high prices to "visitors" in for the contest looking ot find that lucky "contest" winning lure --- :wink:

PS some guys use "salt water" lures since they by nature are naturally larger sized.--and the older bigger smarter fish haven't seen them yet -- unlike most of fresh water type lures which some of the "smarter" fake bait leery big fish have dealt with before .

yea, i figured that was the main reason Ivan...salt water lure is a good idea...your so smart, and a good teacher.

NGE? Why dont you start a John Boat tournament, do you live close to a lake? That would be fun for you! We have small tournament around here by the locals, $10.00 entry fee. We used to fish one and always had a great time. We would all meet at the local cafe once a month to figure out where our next tournament would be, always somewhere close to home...and once a year we would all get together for a big fish fry...those were fun times i tell ya. I really enjoyed that.

Ivan, I have a rather LARGE frog bait (soft rubber) it is used for Muskie fishing here in Michigan. It is about 10inches long and has paddle feet. I'll bet the bass in your lake have never seen a frog lure that big. You need a 5 foot stout rod to fish this monster. I only paid 3 bucks for it, it was in a clearance bin at Wally-World........NGE

I have seen some of those big muskie/pike lures and you are right about the bass not seeing anything that big around here but that don't mean they wouldn't try to eat 'em LOL. I have caught 1lb bass on 6" bluegill/perch (thats what I use for catfish). A bass will try to eat anything it thinks might be food even if it is as big as itself.

bass are called bucket mouths for a reason :wink:

you'ld be amazed at what they will try to eat --muskie lures would be good ultra big bass lures --that monster frog sounds like a winner.

My grandpa used beef blood bait yesterday when we went fishing and it smelled almost as bad as stinkbait.
We didn't catch any fish with it though.

lol..yall are talking about bass will try to eat anything even if its the same size as the bait....very true.
Hubby and i were fishing in the boat one evening, he was using a rattle trap, he said, "trish! Look at this so i jumped up and a baby bass was chasing the rattle trap! It was so funny because they were both the same size! I'll never forget it.

Im gonna start looking in the sales bin for big lures from now on.

I so wished i would have used that spoon during the tournament, probably woulda lost it on a stump, but i bet i woulda got a bite off of it.

I think they require insurance at most
is do to the speeds some travel getting from spot to spot

Mine will do 75 easy loaded and makes it hard to stop quickly
when someone crosses your path line which has happen to me
as everyone is rushing to make it back before the end time
they don't look behind them and turn and cross over.

I carry it personally for one reason
should my partner get killed or hurt
I have something that can use to help them or thier family

The room was requested, and she didn't see a reason I couldn't have it as no one else had requested it.

Only one room left at the place.

For bass nothing beats a bass, 6" Senko (baby bass color) 3/0 or 4/0 j bend worm hook. I always rig Texas style and leave the hook out if I can. This is a twitch bait and is often hit on the fall so watch that line and set the hook when it starts moving of line.

This one is 24" about 6 lbs, Took the bait mentioned above. My fifth 24" one in about 12 years. I guess that is as big as they get in my area. The first came on a 3" baby sluggo with a #2 hook, not 2/0 but #2 and 6 lb test about 12 years ago. I just love when you can remove the hook and not touch the sides of the fishes mouth. "Praise to the Large Mouth!"

What day do you plan on checking in? Man you got a long drive to make Bridge, i hope you win something for your travel thats for sure. No i wouldnt be mad at cha, i'd be happy for ya.

OH...was gonna tell ya, the guy who won the boat has it up for sale, 30,000.00 or best offer. Hubby told me that before he left for work, now i cant remember the web sight he said it was on...

I figure it is a day easily towing my boat. Fuel gets up to 10 dollars a gallon I might be pulling it with my horse and taking a month to get there. Told them I would arrive Thursday and stay till Monday. That will give me one day to check lake out and come up with a plan.

you do know that boat does count as income for that year

you have to pay Uncle Sam for it so it isn't exactly free
