Where's the strangest place you've ever found silver?

Just curious if anybody has any crazy tales of finding silver coins (or any interesting coin finds) in non-traditional places? Other than banks?

Wow, Neil! That is a beautiful find! Always like seeing large find pics.

Got 5 morgans from a bank this winter. Teller said they were sitting in her vault for years. One was an 1878cc

I also found a nickel inside a 5 year old. He swallowed it and his mom did not want an X-ray so she found me online.

Neil - That's funny. Was the nickel silver?

So far I guess it would have to be in the potted plant next to the coinstar machine at my local bank. People were chucking their "reject" coins into it.

She called me at work and told me that she had found the change purse I had hidden in the bedroom, of which I professed no knowledge. Upon arriving at home, I found that the change purse contained some common Indian Head and Lincoln Wheat cents, some common V nickels, some tokens, two Standing Liberty quarters with no dates, and a Spanish silver coin from the 1700s. The original owner had hidden the change purse there

so who hid it the original owner or you????

The last sentence of my post which you quoted gives the answer: the original owner hid the the change purse.

well in it you say she found the change purse I had hidden and professed no knowledge then at the end you say the original owner hid it. this is where i get confused.

As I reread my original posting, yes it was a bit confusing. My wife accused me of hiding the change purse, which I did not. I knew nothing about it. The previous owner had hidden it.

I did find silver but it wasn't the best find in this unusual spot. I was tearing out a fireplace mantel in an old Victorian home that I had when I lived in Georgetown, KY. years ago. Behind the mantel, I found a couple Barber quarters several indians and an unusual cylinder shaped, mother of pearl cigarette lighter. I sold it for $50 and years later found out it was made by Tiffany & Co circa 1900, value close to $1k.

after reading this and thinking I would have to say its more of the strangest deal not place. Once at a bank [far away from me] all three tellers gave me silver coins knowing they were silver . I have gotten silver a few times while the tellers knew they had silver but never have i seen all the tellers collecting silver just to give it to a random person.
Tellers at my bank do hold silver for me. They've given me 8 silver half dollars. One gal there was saving some in the vault, but she never bought them and she gave those to me too. They make a salary, maybe silver coins aren't considered an appropriate perk.

Grrrrr! I would be losing sleep over that one, but I think that might have been an actual "valuable lesson" because you seem to be one of the most knowledgeable posters I have seen here in regards to obscure, top-shelf items like that.

That find was kinda what got me into that kind of stuff. I was in my early 20's at the time and wasn't "tuned in" yet. :laughing7: Live and learn.
