Went out in the frigid morning with Heavymetalnut to hunt a new cellar hole I discovered. Luckily most of the ground was soft enough to get through with enough elbow grease, some spots was solid as granite. I found this neat little whistle along a rock wall about 6 inches down. Can anyone properly ID this whistles approximate age? Heavymetalnut found 6 buttons one in which I'm very fond of, an excellent colonial floral design. Thanks for lookin.

Re: Whistle found in Colonial Cellar Hole

Neat looking whistle. Kind designed like the one on the Flintstone's. You think it's from the stoneage. :laughing7:
Now you can whisle while you work. ;D
Have a prosperous 2010

That's a very nice find! One of those misc. things I don't think much about, but it is somewhere on the want list.

c. 1820s and 30s whistle (these may have militia connections). Pewter. And worth some bucks, too. :hello2:

Here's a nearly identical one for sale for $175:

That is quite a nice find.

Maybe someday but I have only seen two decent whistles found. One was by Romeo, and posted on the best finds, and the other was a very cool early silver Bosun whistle.

Whistles don't turn up often at Colonial sites.

Hopefully this comes in as "3rd" decent whistle. I love it to death, and boy is it LOUD!

Just don't make it a habit as i'm guessing dug pewter isn't too good for the health. (probably still beats most things made in China)

I'd be cool with finding the 3rd, but it's not a big deal. I think Romeo likes his find better than I ever would, so in a way it's better he found it.

Just blow that thing every year on Dec. 30th. Might be what brings you good luck for the year!

that's a cool find and i'm waving a vibra probe pin pointer at ya as trade bait! shoot i may even toss in the button :icon_scratch: :dontknow:

What a great relic  And it works too after being in the ground for who knows how long. Congrats, that's sweet!

Great shape for being pewter, very nice find. :icon_thumright:
Don't see many whistles posted.

Any relic that may have militia connections makes for a great hunt! That whistle is one of the first I've seen posted on here, Sniffy!

Awesome find! Man, I would love to find one of these some day :icon_thumleft: :headbang:

very cool! congrats
