Who does not use Pin Pointer, I don't just wondering.

My White's DFX came with a Bullseye pin pointer, I just found it a pain to use, one more extra thing to drag along metal detecting. I stick to the woods and beach when I metal detect. I carry a waist high shovel, I just dig a big piece of ground out and scan the dirt and kick it around with my shovel until I locate the find. I can even roll my horse shoe cut in the ground in the woods back into place with the shovel. On the beach I can drag the sand back into the hole with shovel. It is my system for a fast recovery and to get moving to the next find. I am not knocking anyone using a pin pointer, keep doing what works for you. I am just wondering if I am the only cave man using a primitive method to detect.

Been hunting for 44 years, and never used a pin-pointer. You're not the only one. There's at least 2 of us.

No pinpointer ? Someone get a rope/make that two

I have both pinpointer on my machines and 2 hand held ones. the ones on the machines pin point the spot to dig and hand held to locate object in hole or plug. considering coins and jewelery can hide very well in the dirt.

Nope, never used one. Maybe if I tried one I couldn't do without it, but I just don't see the point.

I use the pro pointer in the dirt and not at the beach!

Can't imagine not using a pointer. Saves so much time, unnecessary digging, getting up and down.

When I started hunting in 2007, my detector also came with a Bullseye. I didn't think it helped much, so I never used it. Next detector, I spent something like $50 to get a new pinpointer, an Automax. But same thing, not much value. Then came the Centec, which I don't think I used more than once. Finally a few years in I smartened up and bought a Propointer and immediately realized not only was this worth taking out with me, but I simply wouldn't hunt without it.

hunted a few years without one, but since I got the pro pointer I won't hunt without mine. Saves a ton of time over the course of a day's hunt. Question is why wouldn't you want to make things a bit easier and quicker? "but voodoo you have to take out the pointer and put it away every time that takes time too blah blah blah" I have mine clipped right to my detector. As I'm putting my detector down the pointer comes out of the holder in one movement. after the dig as I'm picking up the detector boom right back in the holder no wasted time, no extra weight on the belt. JMHO.

Does mounting it on your detector force you to turn it on and off every time you holster it to keep it from detecting your detector and constantly beeping.

I'm a great one to go along with whatever works for you, especially on questions where there's no real right or wrong. So as I've stated in principle from time to time - if you like a pinpointer use one. If you don't care for them don't use one. I use one and find it very helpful when coin shooting in parks etc. saves time and unnecessary digging.

Only Pinpointer I've ever used is a Garrett. It's become a "don't leave home without it" tool. In the muck/mud I often hunt, a Pinpointer is a necessity.
I would like to try a Pinpointer that is wired to machine. I think Sunray makes this type? Anyway, a hard wired Pinpointer giving true readings on detector screen seems useful. GL
Peace

I have to pipe in too. I never used one 'til a few years ago. Now it's like wearing underwear. I'd feel naked without a pinpointer. Very valuable tool in determining where the goodie in the hole is or how much further you need to dig.

I use a pin pointer, helped find a stud earring at the beach that kept falling thru my scoop. I can probe and find the coin but the pin pointer helps in trashy areas to find the target I want.

i didn't have one last year,I tell you its pretty hard finding a .22 casing around gravel and pine needles. My son got me one for xmas,so we'll see how it goes:thumbsup:

Maybe I'll change my mind on pin pointers later. I have only used one a very few times and didn't think much of it. I am mainly using an old BH 840 which is a motionless detector. I have never needed a pointer to locate a find. I dug a 'dog paw print' hat pin that was about 5 inches deep the other day. I dug down about 3 inches and picked up the detector (still kneeling) and ran it back over the hole; still a signal. I dug down to about 5 inches and found the item. If I had used a pointer, I don't believe it would have been much, if any, handier, or easier than picking the detector up by grasping the shaft and swinging it over the hole. When weather and health lets me get back into serious detecting, I will definitely try the pointer just to see if it helps. So far, I don't see any advantage. It might be an advantage when using the BH Lone Star and Tracker 2D and Tracker IV.

My plan, (since I'm brand new to MDing) is to use the MXT Pro, and give my TRX to my 4 year old to "find" the treasure after I dig the plug. You should have seen him find his first pulltab last Saturday. He thought it was the royal jewels! Its sitting here on my desk now. I don't think it'll speed anything up at all, just be funner!!!

I didn't use one for a long time. But then I got one of the cheap ones from Harbor Freight. It definitely helps when digging in TN dirt...especially when you find those pesky little pieces of foil that are wrapped up in the roots of the grass.....or a tiny earring in the same place. It is well known that if you get one of Harbor Freight pinpointers that you will have to make an adjustment to the switch on them. That was and is the only problem I have had with it......works great otherwise, and wouldn't want to be in the field without one. I hunted beaches for a long time too and never had a pinpointer then. Digging sand is much easier and objects don't have that many places to hide.

Dont see the point?....I wouldnt hunt without one. Ive tried and don't feel like spending 5 minutes on every target
