Check WELL AHEAD of travel. Regulations and Laws are very different from country to country. I think we just had a member say his machine was taken from him when he got on the ship.

Be nice - specially for newbies - if we could try to make a current list of
airlines machines are banned
cruise lines they are banned
destinations they are banned

over the yrs have heard of scams by police depts. or security forces that either ban with no laws or rules
or have asked for money - unlawfully - to allow you to do it
I went to Portugal yrs ago - land police had no prob - marine police had major prob
Ive only been on 2 cruises both on MSC - no prob on cruise line
one destination was Bermuda - needed to get a permit - heard of more than a few
that got caught without one
I hunted Jamaica yrs ago no prob - then 2nd trip first few days fine - then went to spot
young security broke balls and i had to stop - after that trip was planning a 3rd - heard there were new signs
prohibiting detectors - I had group of friends get stopped at customs and had machines taken
returned upon leaving

As I have posted previously, most all cruise ships, have a banned or restricted lists on their web site. I have talked to Norwegian cruise lines on the phone and two different ships and the answer was NOT ALLOWED. NCL info: https://www.ncl.com/prohibited-items item #30 Metal detectors enough said for cruise lines.
I have had no problems with any airline I have traveled on. However, I and another detectorist have had ALL of our detecting equipment confiscated on entry to Jamaica. We did get ALL of the equipment back 3 hours before our flight home. When we were given the equipment we were watched as we packed it, then escorted to the ticket / check in counter were the ticket agent had to sign that they put our equipment on their baggage conveyor. Everyone was pleasant about the confiscation / return of the equipment.

There are several other island that I have checked with that will do as Jamaica does. Antigua is one. My previous employer has a resort on Antigua so I am pretty sure I will not be taking my gear to Antigua. I checked with Turks and Caicos travel bureau after a couple were arrested for carrying ammunition. They said there was no ban on the equipment but No Detecting on the islands' beaches, it is considered "The Queen's Bottom" and is protected. I have not seen anything in writing, but there will be no argument from me.

National property is another No Detecting area in the US. There are plenty of places to enjoy our hobby without a hassle. Just know the laws / regulation on where you plan to detect.

I've flown on American, United, British Airways, Sun Country, Quantas, Delta, Alaska, Hawaiian, (though not all of them recently) with no problems. Countries vary on their regulations or outright bans. Yup, it would be nice to get a current list of yesses and nos. So far, I've had no problems in England and New Zealand. It's been a while since I detected in Canada and Mexico, but, when I did, no problems there either.....with the law that is. Locals can be a different matter.

From what I gather from friends that have traveled more extensively than me, Portugal is a NO, not even on the beach. Private land with permission is ok though. Greece is a no. As mentioned, Jamaica is a no. I've heard of mixed opinions with the Bahamas. Maybe Blak Bart can enlighten us. I've also heard yes and no on the Dominican Republic.

I find it interesting that Jamaica no longer allows detectors but used to in the past.

I've heard that in Jamaica, the locals will walk up and down the beach selling Ganja, and who knows what other forms of medicine, lol. Selling Ganja apparently is OK, but using a metal detector isn't, smh.
