Decided to go fishing today, loaded all my fishing gear in the back of the truck. Thought I might take my detector and check for lead and old hooks while pole watching. Went about a mile and a half from home to the Lower Illinois River. Before I even took out my gear I decided to swing my detector a couple of times. I got it out, made sure it was setup right out of the back of the truck. Set it to the ground and made a test swing and got tone. Detector showed a penny four inches down. I figured it was a tab since most people down there have a few beers or pop while fishing, but it kept showing the same thing so I dug down and sure enough found a penny. Laughed about it with my wife, put the detector up and got my gear out and spent the day fishing. Got a few bites but never caught anything. Started to get tired of sitting so I got up and decided to swing the detector again. Once again I got a tone this time it said it was a quarter four inches down. Spent about ten minutes looking for it and finally found it. I was up twenty-one cents and was starting to feel the fishing trip wasn't such a waste of time. started to put the detector up when I got another tone this time it was showing a dime two inches down. Figured I was two for two might as well check. Sure enough it became three for three. I found the dime. So all in all I found a whoppin thirty-six cents, none of it was old money or anything but I was still happy because I found some treasure. We never caught any fish before we loaded up and went home but we did have a good time together. My wife said it was the best fishing trip we have taken in a long time. I agreed as usual. We enjoyed being out around nature and each other and we came home richer than we left. I did find several hooks, tabs, and lead ,and left the area we fish a little cleaner than it was before, and that too feels good. All in all a good day.
