Who's Carrying a Glock While Detecting Va. Beach? Mention on National News.

"Not that there is anything wrong with it" lol Watching Fox Business News last night and Dagen McDowell mention that she had seen a guy carrying a Glock while he was metal detecting at Va. Beach. He told her it was to protect his gold ring finds. No time frame but seemed to indicated it had been recent. She is pro gun but was still seemed to be shocked to see it on the beach. Sure he has his reasons but I have not felt the need to yet. Has anyone else felt the need to carry at the beach?

In California they won't let you carry a gun , unless you have a CCWP....AND good luck if you can get one, a permit ,that is.

Got tired of the same old cliches. Thought I would make up my own. Not sure what point it makes. I guess it is better it is better to step over some things then it is to step into. Don't mind me.

Worked for me! Also, Rob me once shame on you, rob me twice, shame on me.

Same in Florida... except you can keep it in your glove box legally without a CCWP.

It's not hard to get a permit! Do it people! You don't have to carry once you have it, but it sure comes in handy when you want to.

If I felt, not being able to protect myself was irrational, I would not only give up metal detecting, I would of left the country long ago.

Like I said, the day I feel that I have to carry a gun to the beach will be a very sad day. No offense but I think you all sound a little irrational

Claire........ its changed, aint no leaving the door open or unlocked when you are gone. Half the people dont even know their neighbors any more. Our rights are slowing being infringed on, plus weve been at war for many years now.... and the world is just a smaller place. People feel a little less safe....... huge difference from when i grew up.

Also my X wife really dislikes guns in the house. Dont call me sexist, but guns seem to be more a man thing. Military retired here........ so she had to get over not wanting guns in the house. Besides who said men were rational lol.

My wife does not like guns and was against me owning them or getting a permit.

Then one time we were walking through a very bad area at night because parking was full and we had to park far away from an event ...

... she leans over and whispers "You have your gun right?"

She gets it now.

I am not advocating that the government should take everyone's guns away! That would be equally irrational and ridiculous. I'm just saying that if everyone's "carrying", to me it seems that there is a greater chance for things to go terribly wrong. By all means if you feel safer with a gun then have a gun! For me, if I feel that in danger somewhere, like MDing on a beach, I would get the hell out of there. And by the way I still leave my door unlocked accept at night and I know my neighbors real well, ones a cop, so he has a gun should I need assistance, lol

And what do you do at the beach if you don't recognize the danger till it is staring you in the face?

What do you do when the intruder is already in your home, say " please wait while I call my police neighbor?"

My neighbor is also a police and has told me she is glad I am armed, she took my cell number and told her roommate to call me if there is ever any trouble and she isn't home....

what are gun laws in Nevada

I haven't seen anyone saying you claimed the govt should take away guns. Everyone here is just saying that most of the time, the danger comes without warning. Police do NOT and CAN NOT protect you from harm. They arrive to process the crime scene, photograph your body and hope to figure out who did it. When a bad guy is in your home, it's almost always too late to try to call 911.

And once again, you are believing the liberal lie that armed, law-abiding citizens are going to start gunning each other down in the streets. Lots of states have had conceal-carry and open carry laws for over a decade and IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED ONCE!

Remember these people who have permits have passed an extensive FBI background check, which includes checks for domestic violence, past criminal history, mental history, and travel history in some cases.

It's pretty unlikely that "things would be worse if everyone were carrying a gun". While that may be true of biker gangs carrying weapons illegally, that does not usually apply to responsible citizens carrying legally.

Thinking you are going to call for help is just delusional. Do you use a smart phone? Dip your hands in dish soap to simulate blood and start running, and then try to unlock your phone and make a call

I have mine always on beach with me, never know what wildlife you might encounter at night :dontknow:

I was never a big gun enthusiast but I didn't have a problem with people having/carrying them legally. My husband is military and we were stationed somewhere very dangerous. People were being carjacked in broad daylight on main roads at intersections and being raped. It was so out of control. Once I had a baby I knew I had to get my conceal n carry. I couldn't tell a carjacker to wait while I unhooked my baby from car seat.
I don't usually carry, esp now that we are out of that area, but it's good knowing I can. Things can get hairy anywhere. If husband is away for long periods I like knowing I have my gun in the house for protection.

Wow! Hot topic. Now if we could just get you guys as excited about metal detecting lol. I do lots of night detecting and detected in many rough places outside the USA in South America. I couldn't bring a gun where I need it most and I sure wouldn't rust it up knee deep in the ocean lol. I have had several people try to rob me one, two and even three at a time but only lost one detector and set of gear. The last two guys that tried to rob me at gunpoint just over two months ago got nothing but conversation although I had several hundred dollars worth of gold and cash on me. If I had a gun with me it would have escalated the situation and someone would be dead, someone in jail and I wouldn't get to be detecting. I refuse to live in fear and when there's a gun in my face I stay remarkably calm and reasonable. Whether armed or not its the cool headed that prevail. I am in ok shape and not much of a fighter but I stay aware of my surroundings and am not afraid whether talking, running or fighting (in that order). I have had more than my share of near death experiences. If my mouth and my feet fail me, my shovel, sand scoop and digger are all the weapons I need. I had to threaten to throw my Excal off a cliff in Peru to keep it out of the three robber's hands but eventually made enough of a scene in the stalemate that some locals helped me out and I got some long time friends out of the deal. I am glad many of you are packing and there are times I wish I did or have brought a friend who does but for me personally it wouldn't help enough to pursue doing.

so you are equating your good luck with being robbed so many times to nobody else needs a gun? Glad I live in America where I don't have to be an easy victim. Easy victims create more criminals.

It only takes one time for you to be dead. it isn't just me, I have an obligation to my wife to be sure I am around to take care of her and I am not placing my life into the hands of thugs and criminals.........

I always stay aware of my surrounding, I hunt at nights at times as well and I carry, only time I don't carry on me when I am detecting is during the day, if I am going in the water past knee deep as I don't want it to get wet, i have carried in my wetsuit up high on my shoulder when I was going wet deep......... If I am not going in the water then I carry it on me even during the day on a crowded beach...

Dont know where you live but in Florida we have stand your ground law, if I am being held up, threaten ect I have legal grounds to defend myself up to and including lethal force. I'm to slow to run, to old to fight so guess what I am going to do........

Florida is also close to passing bills in both houses for open carry for anyone with a CCW permit. Governor has stated he would sign it if it passed...

You can't always talk your way out of being killed. Glad you've succeeded so far but I wouldn't bet on it.

Actually, statistically you are more likely to be hurt in a robbery if you are armed. But if it makes you feel safer by all means carry.

Don't believe that for a second. Sounds like intentionally skewed research. Can you cite the original research or are you just parroting what you heard on msnbc?
