why do sketchy people like to watch you metal detect??

Yep best advise is go with someone. If its a bad neighborhood just leave, no coins are worth being attacked. This happened to me last year while I was out detecting with my buddy. It was a crackhead with a bottle and he tried to grab my detector in the middle of a city park in the ghetto. He ran right up to us and threw a bottle at me and lunged for my detector, luckily I blocked the bottle as it was flying at my head. He never got ahold of my detector because I was swinging my shovel like it was an axe.

When I was younger I would detect at least 100 yards away from anyone else (well most of the time) it gave me time to walk away if I seen anyone heading towards me, once I turned 21 I bought a gun though, it makes me feel safe anywere. If I cant put someone down with 14 rounds of .45 I shouldnt be detecting. I did run into a bum once before I started carrying a gun he was in the woods in a cellar hole I never got a look at him but he kept yelling "dont come any closer I got a gun" My uncle started hitting the brush he was hiding in with a shovel taunting the guy to come out, I was busy hiding behind a tree. Luckly I had someone detecting with me that time 99.99999% of the time I dont.

Although at Your Age it is
obviously Better to Be Carefull.

Perhaps at his age it is Better to watch at a distance too.

Point being, Ever Consider
he may Be intrested in Metal detecting,
But because you are so young
he Kept his distance hopeing not to Upset you ?

Works both ways these days.

I Won't even ask a Kid Directions
from My vehicle or in a Remote Place
simple Because I Read so much of Kids accusing
people of trying something
Then Reading a few days later how it
was all an Innocent Mistake,
or a Kid Crying for attention.

Next time they do that, drop your detector and pull out your pistol probe pinpointer. Then open your eyes as wide as you can, direct the pointer in their direction and smile at them.

Excellent point Jeff can't take the chance of being accused Even if your motives are good Ie your walking around a shopping mall see a young child walking around by its self what do u do ?

Yea I Havn't had that happen yet But I Know I'd Think twice
about approaching.

used to be you could go anywhere
if you needed directions, pull
over & push open the passenger side door
didn't matter if it was a man, woman,
young girl or boy they would walk over
and lean in to see what you want.
in some cases they would say "I'm
going that way, I'll show You" and
plop themselves in the seat.
could you imagine the SWAT team that
would show up if you
do that now ?

all you need to is Watch somone & Your
