Why I use Dowsing rods?
!. I can pick up signals that are miles away
2. When I get to the target I can get the approximant depth of the target. The deepest one I have had was 30 feet.
3. When I get to the target I can get an estimate of the size of the object by using other tools.
4. If I have baited my rods I know just what kind treasure is there.

I was not willing to dig that deep. It was in gold country so I assume it was just a small vein...and there were many targets in the area...Art

Hey Jr. The only things I knew was that there was no sign of a river ever being there. It looked like the spot I was standing on was bedrock and had checked for caves in the area..Art

I don't use baited rods like Art, but it can work for those who want to try the technique. Here is a video of treasure hunters learning the use of baited rods, checking out signals with a metal detector.
