I did a little work on my M-70. New wood from Turkey and reblue. New scope, rings and bases. Made in 1951, this rifle now looks brand new. It’s a .30-06 I purchased from a 95 yr old WW2 vet. I paid $750 for it. I have around $1300 in it now with the upgrades. The scope is a vintage Redfield wideview in 2 3/4X. The stock still needs carving or checkering. It’s on my to do list. When I get time I’ll sight it in and do some shooting with it. The Turkish walnut is dense and heavy. The rifle weighs 10 lbs. Too heavy for this old guy to carry very far, but the weight will reduce the recoil significantly. A nice addition to my gun cabinet.

Even a blind man would be proud of the beauty of this rifle. Grew up shooting a 30-06.

I like that the front and rear sights are still intact.

With the Redfield scope mounting system you can remove the scope and use the open sights. The scope will still be zeroed when it’s remounted. It’s nice to have the open sights for backup.

I agree with beepbleep, the figuring in that walnut is awesome. I've seen some gorgeous stocks out there, and it always amazes me.
There is an incredible amount of walnut being cut by the Turks. It’s sad in a way. They’re cutting the ancient forests in Armenia. The Turks vs Armenians is a story for the political forum.
