Bubba's Remington: Before and After

I made it down to the gunsmith and he reassembled both rifles.View attachment 2156349

Both of these rifles are the same model but made different yrs. I assumed they were identical. Wrong! The triggers were slightly different lengths and the shape of trigger guard slightly different. I engraved one trigger guard but it turned out to be the wrong one. So now I have a plain gun with an engraved guard and engraved gun with plain guard. 😩 I’ll have to go back and engrave the other guard. Another senior moment!View attachment 2156353
Well if it was just a trigger guard that the gunsmith pointed out was mixed up.
That still gives you a 9.5/10.
Beautiful work sir.

Both of these rifles have Redfield scopes, rings, and bases. In the 70s they made bases with a flip up peep sight. I have these on both rifles. The bases were very difficult to find. With one screw removed the scope comes off easily. The scope will go back to being dead on when reinstalled.

I’m revisiting this project to fix my screw up. I need to engrave the plain guard, and remove engraving from the other one and make it plain. I gave them an acid bath to remove the bluing.

Next, scribe some lines on the plain guard.

Cut the lines and inlay the gold.

Finish the design.

And now take a file to the engraved guard.😩 It’s going…

Gone! Next step is a trip to the gunsmith for rebluing.👍🏻
