Tesoro Vaquero , Tesoro Silver uMax
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
We just got back from our father & son fishing trip on Northern Wisconsin (Boulder Junction). My older brother came with too, and we had a great time. We stayed at a lodge that my Dad used to take us as kids. A family tradition at it's finest. Nice weather in the 60's all week too.
I caught a 32" Northern Pike the first day, my brother got a 3 lb. Bass, and my son caught two smaller Northerns. We all caught some nice 1 1/2 - 2lb Bass throughout the week oo, along with some Crappie, Perch, and one small Walleye (Smalleye?).
I hated to come home to this 100+ degree weather here in NC. :'(
I wasn't going to bring my detector, but I figured I'd sneak in a quick hunt somewhere during the week, and I'm glad I brought it. A few nice finds right in town!
The thrill of the trip though was my brother being right by a bear in the pitch black when he was going from the lodge to our cabin one night. He heard a noise, but couldn't see a thing. The next day the owner told us that a bear was spotted and it had ripped down a few things right next to the lodge that night looking for food. Man, was he lucky! Of course being his brother, I would have come to his rescue and fended off the bear with a fishing rod or my Mighty Tesoro. :tongue3:
Here are a few pictures of my finds and our fishing follies. (You figure out which fish are real and which are staged) ;D
We had a great time and I hope to go back in a few years.
My finds were:
*1942 Merc
*1946 (in same hole as the Merc) and a 1956 Rosie
*1902 IH - Less than 2" deep in a dirt driveway!
*Wheats- 2 x 42' , 2 x 57' , 45' , 52'.
*Other asst'd pieces.

Thanks for looking,
MM

Pretty good metal detecting finds for a fishing trip.

I have been in a mini silver slump. In the last couple weeks I have dug about 40+ wheats but no silver.

I like those pike. Only pike I ever caught was in Canada. We have lots of walleye up here Doug. ;D And they are good size. The class of 2003 was a great hatch and those fish now are 23-24" (3-5 lbs).

Bob,
I've seen some of your coin collection when you came to NC. You Sir are in no "silver slump". ;D
You never know, you may hit on the magic wheatie some day.

Thanks Gypsy. Just like the 1800's silver coins, those Walleye seem to elude me.
Can't wait to go back again. The Sayner Museum was really neat too. They had the worlds first and largest snowmobile collection, and a huge old outboard motor collection. Very neat to see.

Prober,
That was a small Northern Pike my son caught. He had a larger one, but it flipped out of the net when my brother was trying to unhook it.
