Detector(s) used
Tesoro Vaquero , Tesoro Silver uMax
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
We just got back from our father & son fishing trip on Northern Wisconsin (Boulder Junction). My older brother came with too, and we had a great time. We stayed at a lodge that my Dad used to take us as kids. A family tradition at it's finest. Nice weather in the 60's all week too.
I caught a 32" Northern Pike the first day, my brother got a 3 lb. Bass, and my son caught two smaller Northerns. We all caught some nice 1 1/2 - 2lb Bass throughout the week oo, along with some Crappie, Perch, and one small Walleye (Smalleye?).
I hated to come home to this 100+ degree weather here in NC. :'(
I wasn't going to bring my detector, but I figured I'd sneak in a quick hunt somewhere during the week, and I'm glad I brought it. A few nice finds right in town!
The thrill of the trip though was my brother being right by a bear in the pitch black when he was going from the lodge to our cabin one night. He heard a noise, but couldn't see a thing. The next day the owner told us that a bear was spotted and it had ripped down a few things right next to the lodge that night looking for food. Man, was he lucky! Of course being his brother, I would have come to his rescue and fended off the bear with a fishing rod or my Mighty Tesoro. :tongue3:
Here are a few pictures of my finds and our fishing follies. (You figure out which fish are real and which are staged) ;D
We had a great time and I hope to go back in a few years.
My finds were:
*1942 Merc
*1946 (in same hole as the Merc) and a 1956 Rosie
*1902 IH - Less than 2" deep in a dirt driveway!
*Wheats- 2 x 42' , 2 x 57' , 45' , 52'.
*Other asst'd pieces.

Thanks for looking,
MM

Fish and silver..what a combination ;D I guess that's better than finding silverfish :tongue3:

Glad you had a good time Doug! That fish and those coins are all keepers! Thanks for sharing your trip with us, those pics are great!

Nat

Doug, it is good to see that you guys had a great time. You fellers found quite a few lunkers! John Walter was also a lunker, but he was on Andro at the time. :D

Nice job on the wilvers and Injun, buddy! I knew that you couldn't resist the fever for that long! ;D

Miner, now THAT'S the perfect weekend!

I'll be up that way in August with my two sons and brother (maybe I'll bring my detector along too ;D)

Take care,

It;s got to be a toss up on the fish or the find's Doug.....Both most Excellent.!! Thank's for posting the Pic's of the fishing trip, been hooking em' since I was 7 yr's old.Thank's again, nothing like a skillet full of hammer handle's ;D

Ahhh, fishing and detecting...I love both of them!

Doug, that trip looks like it was so much fun. Nice Northern!! :o I've got to get out fishing more. I used to fish much more than detect years ago. Detecting has taken up all of my free time now.

Glad you found keepers in the water and in the ground!! That's what I call a successful and memorable trip.

I guess the old song, "Feels good to be back home" doesn't apply here, huh? ;D

Thanks Nat.
I picked up what I think is an original Hotwheel car carrying case at a flea market for $4 when I was up there. I thought of you. ;D
I'll have to e-mail you a picture. It's the black case shaped like a tire.

Thanks Kyle. We had a great time. My detecting is more like Barbara Walters sometimes rather than John Walter. :tongue3: ;D
I can't believe someone hasn't detected the area I hit after all these years. It's right out in the open too! :icon_scratch:

WC,
Let me know if you are going to be around Boulder Junction, and I'll let you know where I found these coins. Very easy, and right out in the open area!

Thanks Civil. I was hoping to hook a Musky, but had to settle for a Northern this trip. I still have never caught a Walleye yet. :'(

Thanks Dan.
No, John Denver can keep that song for now. Rocky Mountain High may be a better choice this time of year. ;D
Fishing & detecting are my two favorites too. Both relaxing. Have a great week.

Thanks Weasel. The copper coins seem to be in a lot better shape up in Wisconsin, over what I'm used to finding here in NC. Most of mine here are usually found on farms though where the fertilizers have probably trashed them. This 1902 IH was found in some nice brown dry dirt right in town. I couldn't believe my eyes when it popped out!

Great post and pics MM. Looks like you had a blast.

Great post MM--  -And nice finds---That IH is in good shape.
Loved the pics. Fishing up north is only surpassed by dirt fishing.

Wow, the ULTIMATE Surf & Turf hunt!

You brought back some memories for me when you mentioned Boulder Junction.
In 1985 my Dad and I stayed at The Wild Cat Lodge up there.
I brought my detector ( Garrett ADS II ) with me then and the only coin that I found was a 1907 I H .
I found and old 1954 license plate and old wood workers tool ( long blade with 2 handles )
Caught some nice fish too.
Thanks for bringing back the memories from deep within....

Congrats on your successful trip / vacation with your son and brother
I'm sure it will be a memory that you and your son will never forget..

Bob,
Thanks for sharing your memories of Boulder Junction too. There was a guy from Colorado there staying too. He too had fond memories of the place as a kid. We're all "hooked". ;D

Josh,
I remember watching those guys too. They were the kings of the Musky & Walleye. :icon_king:

Thanks everyone for the nice replies. Fishing in Boulder Junction brings back some great memories of my Dad too even though he's gone now.
My son and I both love going up there and can hopefully do it again in a few years. Next time I'm staying away from that darn Indian casino that I left my deposit at. ::) ;D
-Doug-

That’s a very impressive fish and finds to boot. The indian head penny is nice to say the least.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey Doug, awesome catches and finds buddy.
Looks like a great time.
Hope all is well your way.

Smiles!
