Would you date the Buffalo?

I found this worn Buffalo coin recently in a box of nickels.

Worn Indian 1.webpWorn Indian 2.webp

As you can see, the year inscription is missing from the Native American's shoulder.

This is only my second Buffalo, so I am a bit attached to it. If this were your second Buffalo, would you use a weak acid on it to try to reveal the year of minting? Doing so will most likely scar the nickel with a nasty looking etched area. I am not sure that I want to degrade the coin more than it already is. Would you?

Buffalo's don't float my boat though.

& NIC-A-DATE is correct a drop on the date of most Buffalo's will bring it out.
Doesn't work for me on Dug-uns though

He meant Indian as in Native American not Indians from India. Big difference. Someone said it once and i says it again, you must be a decendedant of Christopher Columbus to mix the two up.

jeff, she might be a little old for you but dis is the kind of Indian in question:

I was with an Indian once. Best lady I've ever been with. :-)

Honestly speaking, Indians (from india) are some of the nicest people I've met. This being said, I've met some mean ones, specifically the Indian bourgeoisie (hard to describe them with any other word, i ain't no commie). These are the kind of Indians who own Ferraris, expansive houses, everything else not----which I don't have a problem with. What I have a problem with, If you make half of what they make they will treat you like dirt.

You forgot the Casino & Loan shark Businesses that advertise pay day loans :(

I've been working on my buffalo book; I have yet to find a buffalo dated prior to 1920 that I didn't have to use Nic-a-Date on.

One of the reasons I really hate the Buffalo Nickel design. Just looks ugly as sin to me. Hard to get up any interest in forming a collection. Much rather have Liberty V's.

I love the buffalo nickles one of my favorites!

I guess we will have to agree to disagree then; I love the buffalo nickel and don't care for the V nickel, lol. :)

Have you ever seen a nice uncirculated 'V' in person? They are simply gorgeous.

Yes I would date an Indian. Heck, I married one, my wife is part Native American, as am I. I also have a nearly complete set of Buffalos I've been working on since I was a child.

Ew... that and the Standing Liberty Quarter... hard to believe they could be minted the same time as the fantastic Eagle and Double Eagle coins of that era, which were truly spectacular. Oh well, yes we will have to agree to disagree.

Simply mix vinegar and some salt, insert dateless Buff nickel, let sit for a couple of days, watch the date appear.

We agree on something! I don't care for the Standing Liberty quarter either!
