Wow this is harder than I thought.

I have been lurking this forum for several months and this week I decided to give it a shot.

My bank "Bank of Oklahoma" told me that they can't order halves at all.

I went to Bank of America who said they do not have any halves and "will not" order them for me.

I went to Eastmon National bank which is the largest "local" owned bank with about 5 branch offices in the county. They told me that they do not have any halves but would order them in 1000$ boxes but I would have to pay a "Brinks" fee which she doesn't know how much is. so anyone know how much that would cost?

I stopped by several branch offices for every bank in town and got the same kind of responce from them all. "no we dont have any halves and none are in the vault" of course they would not even look to see.

wow. this is going to be tougher than I thought. Any hints?

You might have to order boxes from a bank far away. I wouldn't ever get boxes that you have to pay a fee simply because you are unlikely to come out financially ahead (if the fee was $3 you could buy a silver dime from a coin dealer for that much and get guaranteed silver), perhaps back a few years ago it might be worth it to pay a fee for boxes, but there are just so many skunk boxes today that I just don't see it financially worth it, for example, some people have skunk box streaks now in the 20s, if we assume a $3 fee (not really sure what fees are lately, but lets just go with $3) you are in the hole $60 if you get 20 skunk boxes, not to mention the cost of gas and time. I know that we shouldn't be in this hobby for the money, but when you start having to pay to order boxes (or pay to dump), most of us would just be financially better off to buy some silver from a coin dealer. If you can get boxes without paying a fee and without paying dumping fees, CRHing can be pretty profitable if you are lucky, but if you are stuck with uncooperative banks, it often makes more sense to just buy the silver outright.

It almost sounds like someone (or more than one) has already spoiled it for you in that area.
Perhaps an over ambitious (greedy) CRH'er has already burnt some bridges in your town?

tell her they can add the boxes onto their order and it doesn't cost them more so it should be free for you as a benefit to having an account there... thats the brinks fee i was told, a standard weekly fee.

I say, try dimes. You might average 7 dimes per $1k. You find silver + you accumulate silver.
That's like searching 2 boxes of halves and scoring one 90%, one 40%.

Try one of the small "local" type banks instead of the big national chain type banks. Offer to move all of your personal accounts to their bank if they will order boxes on a regular basis for free...and by all means follow through on your promise if they agree to do so. In my experience, these smaller banks actually want your business and are much more accommodating.

Sorry to hear about your luck finding boxes.

Personally, I would never pay for boxes. I'm on a 13 box skunk streak.

At $5 a box, that would have cost me $65 to find nothing but clad.

Even with my boxes currently being ordered for free, I'm at the point of knowing that I've spent more on gasoline and time than it would have cost just to buy silver at the coin shop.

It's not that your doing anything wrong. Oklahoma has been hit, i know because i have worked it over and all the major cities have regular CRH's. Just start setting up your empire...aka order and dump banks. And start culling the banking system. I personally swept through all of the panhandle and all of western OK up to tulsa down through OKC and all west of 35 down to the red river. I'm from Enid, but don't live in OK anymore. I can tell u in my checking in the big cities, Tulsa, Stillwater, greater OKC, they have people CRHing. All the banks were giving me "oh we just got rid of them all" when I checked them. So that's why tellers aren't looking because they know. I didn't go east and southeast so?? Also looks like a guy in Arkansas has been having good reports from the road so might be some old silver sitting in banks over there.

Agreed 100%. Local and regional banks usually want your business. Offer to move some or all of your accounts there and they should be willing. However if you go for a smaller bank, make sure that they have a weekly coin delivery. Some don't, and they probably won't make an exception for one person. Good luck

Agreed 100%. I roadtrip to Oklahoma to find the silver.
