WW1 Era? US Military what is it?

This was purchased in a large coin collection. I have an idea of what it is, but I want an expert or authority to help me out which is you guys. Thanks Tom

Well, my post was getting a bit long so I cut it off at Monte Cassino because it was the Polish 2nd Corps' finest hour.

My guess is that the Rosette is definitely pre-WW2 but I'd venture a guess that it's WW1-era
