Hello! I'm new to the forum and was curious to know what kind of helmet this is and whether it's an original, or a worn out fake. I've seen so many variations online when trying to identify it so it hasn't helped much. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Real or fake it's old imo. I put my money on the real deal.

It would be virtually impossible to fake that patina. My money is with Tamrock, it's an old original.

I should also add a few observations, there are no ventilation holes in the spike, and the colors of the cockade on the left side are black-white-red (unlike the black-white-black as shown on the right side)

The word "Koenig," no doubt means King, so I've checked the spelling of king in several languages, Swedish, German, Norwegian etc. and came up blank. I wonder if the FR stands for Ferdinand? That would make it German, but then the spelling of king is different, according to google German King is spelled "Konig." I can't read the other writing on the helmet, enter it in a google translation and see what you come up with, and that might give you a place to re-start your research.

Also, the three Christian crosses made me think it might be Swiss Vatican guards. ???

The banner reads "mitt gott fur koenig und vaterland" which translates to
"with god for the king and fatherland

FR seems to refer to King Friedrich

Looks real but there are some real good fakes out there. Crossing fingers for your research and hoping its real

Underneath inside the helmet there has to be a manufacturer and probably a size number stamped right into the steal. Look and see because it would help dating it etc.
Im thinking real but looks cool either way! [emoji2]

There are a lot of fakes out there but rare if you have the real deal. Its called a "armor" helmet also because of the long backside protecting the neck and plated chin strap.

There is no stamp of the sort anywhere, but I read somewhere that they may not necessarily have that, so it might still be valid. I do like the way it looks either way, but would love to know more!

It does although that model doesn't have the "lobster tail" along the back. There are so many variations that came about during the years as the helmets were put to use.

Could you post a good picture of the inside? I'm just curious to see. I've never seen the inside of one!

Need to see the liner, any markings on the liner, the rivets that attach it, and a close up of the attachments for the spike, and the eagle (if you can safely expose them) and both of the attachment points of the chinstrap (same emblem each side?) to confirm, but it looks right. Where did you get it? Was it found or purchased locally?

Edit... The two Kokaden being different is correct The three "crosses" Bos'n pointed out are actually emblems used by Currasiers,
