You hit the Jackpot with this hunt! When you come down from walking on air, get out there and find some more OLD sites. You can have hunts similar to this every time out. :)

Awesome finds. Any Spanish silver=super day. I agree with Buckleboy that the size indicates 1 real. From what I understand 2 reales are just a hair larger than American quarters. Although I wouldn't know for sure because I've never found one. :-\ That sounds like a great site. Let us know what else turns up there.

Hey BB, SKD -

First of all, congrats SKD! I'm more than envious of that Seated... I still haven't found one in 20+ yrs of detecting...

BB - I did some Photoshop juju, and I've figured out that the reason the reverse looks bigger is the diff angels the photos were shot at, plus lens distortion (I do this kindof stuff for a living, sorta...)

And Buckle Boy, guess what! The dime images are of ONE dime. The front only shows the 1854 date and the back is as shown, and is as good as can be! I don't understand it either....lol

SKD Thanks for all your help. If it is a nickle size, what is it then and is it supposed to be really thin?

Wierd. Maybe they started filing it down to make a love token and it was lost...but it's Wierd LOL. Wierd I tell ya. :icon_scratch:

Anyhow, my money is still on One Real for the spanish silver coin. I assume this is your earliest silver? If so, a BIG CONGRATS!

Buckleboy

Super Finds!!!!!!!!!!!! The 1782 is a 2 Reale from Spain.
Regards,
Jon Dickinson.

I believe it is actually a One Real instead--due to its size.

The IH token is a CW-Era store card. Can you post what it says on the back?

These are all GREAT finds.

Regards,

Buckleboy

P.S.--the 1854 coin you posted in the first photo looks like a half dime--and in the second photo obviously a dime. They look like different coins sizewise, as well as wear. The first coin is a cull--AG tops, and the second at least three grades better, with a full rim.

Wierd!

Buckle Boy is right, it sure doesn't look like the same coin BUT I have seen several cases like this. I have found both a 1773 Virginia Half Penny and a 1832 Large Cent that had virtually been worn completely away on the face side from years of that side being "face up" to bare the brunt of the rain, snow, sun, and heat throughout the 100+ years they were lying there. As a result, that side of the coins were basically "slugs" with little or no distiniguishable marks. BUT, when you look at the other sides of them, the sides that were lying down into the ground, they are MUCH MUCH better preserved, several grades above the "Heads" Side. This is another posssibility to add to BuckleBoy's which is equally a good hypothesis. Either way, those are some very fine finds, all of them!!

Wow! My dad lives in Fairborn...I know right where Yellow Springs is at...neat little hippie town now. Congrats on some great finds!

:director: What? No gold!? LOL WTG looks like a nice day in Dayton. How deep you think most of your finds were? D.D.

Wow, you hit the jackpot. Very sweet haul. The Reale looks great as do all the other great old coins. I can see why you would be on cloud 9. ;D 8) :icon_sunny:

It is funny how that seated dime looks so worn on the one side and good on the other.

Now that's a great day of hunting, WTG

Hope you keep posting the finds from that site. I look forward to seeing more.

Sweet Sweet Sweet!

:o :o Those are some truly awesome finds for our area in particular. Spanish silver is something I've never heard anyone find in this area. I know Spanish silver was legal tender in the U.S. until 1857, so I'm sure there are some more around here. You just gota be in the right place at the the right time. That it is one sweet site you've got there, congrats. The civil war token rules. I've seen that one in the books and always hoped to find one. Yours looks nicer than the one I dug last week, nice patina. You da man!

Only other person from Ohio that I have heard dig a Spanish silver (real, reale) in Ohio has been Ringfinder.
