A few days ago I posted a picture of a new spot that I wanted to try out and was asking about how old everybody thought it was. Well, today I went to shepherdsville, kentucky and started looking there. I found an old map and thought what the heck. Well, everything was a business or concrete so I tried the old farm house instead. I wasted about 3 hours detecting in Shepherdsville and didn't even find a wheat penny, I couldn't believe it. So then I stopped at this house and got a weak signal at about 5 inches. I dug it up and nothing but a big tree root (way to big to cut). So I dug around it, and finally after about 8 inches into the ground I found a dirty coin and thought it was a quarter with it's size. Well I wiped it off and out came an 1820 Large Cent. The condition isn't the best but it is definately my oldest coin.

Congrats on a good one...

hope to see more on the way soon!!

Great find! I have a signal under a tree root at a church I need to dig, when all the snow melts. Your 1820 large cent looks like the small date kind.

Clean that place out. HH,

Love the large cents! Great find.

Great find!

Tree roots seem to love getting in the way of good stuff.

Very nice coin, I'm still waiting to find one after 30 years

That is truly a wonderful find. KY is full of history and fantastic places to hunt. I have some in-laws down around E-town so I pass that way several times a year. Maybewe could hunt together sometime if you arent to far off,HH...Shoot

Man that is a great find! I am mostly a relic hunter but I must say, those old coins are a REAL TREAT!! Good Job. ;)

Tree roots--especially on OLD trees, hide the gooooood stuff! It's agravating to dig, but usually gives great results. Thirty years ago, the detectors would "hit" on some roots just as a good signal. Thank goodness the manufacturers got THAT problem flushed out.
