A few days ago I posted a picture of a new spot that I wanted to try out and was asking about how old everybody thought it was. Well, today I went to shepherdsville, kentucky and started looking there. I found an old map and thought what the heck. Well, everything was a business or concrete so I tried the old farm house instead. I wasted about 3 hours detecting in Shepherdsville and didn't even find a wheat penny, I couldn't believe it. So then I stopped at this house and got a weak signal at about 5 inches. I dug it up and nothing but a big tree root (way to big to cut). So I dug around it, and finally after about 8 inches into the ground I found a dirty coin and thought it was a quarter with it's size. Well I wiped it off and out came an 1820 Large Cent. The condition isn't the best but it is definately my oldest coin.

That is really a nice find, Congrats. 8)

Sweet spot, yes i would hit it again . nice find.

I'm like you I will usually not give up if I get a good signal. I once was searching around the base of a tree and ran into a root and got my axe out and started chopping the root and dug down about 12" and to my amazement I found the end of a shovel. Your find was definately way better.
Don't ever give up, it could be trash or it could be TREASURE!!!! :o
