Yesterday's Colonial Recoveries
I got out yesterday to a couple colonial sites. Both sites have been hit hard by my digging partner and myself, but if you go slow and listen hard, you can always find something at these spots. I was happy to dig the cuff link with the anchor motif at the first site. I had dug another one of these years ago at another site. One of the large tombacs has a raised rim, which I think may be the only one I have ever dug like that. My last signal of the day as I was walking out of the field at the second site was a 1781 George III Hibernia. This coin would have been half decent if it was dug in good ground, but as you can see the ground here just devours copper. To illustrate this point, the last picture shows all 19 coppers I have dug here since I found the place last year. Thankfully, I have also found 6 Spanish and 2 early US silvers here. That takes some of the sting away from all the toasted coppers!
