Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

prospector during the summer, logger in the winter

Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

sweatshop worker, outlaw, bum, uneducated know-it-all.

But if I lived over a hundred years ago, I could sell snake oil and other notions, yeah!

Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

Panning for gold in the summer & trapper in the winter!

Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

Maybe on the side I'd be a moonshiner. :icon_jokercolor:

I would like to have been a Frontiersman in the early West with a fast gun hand, a good tracker with friendship with
some of the Indian Tribes, and to help out the law once in a while if it needs help. Then after a few years of wandering
and getting to know some of the well-known people of the time (besides seeing a lot of nice country) find a good wife and settle down and raise a family on a small ranch of my own and raise horses.

A Lawman, Sherriff, Marshall, or Texas Ranger.

Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

probably would have been a Texas ranger they did a lot to help settle the west.

Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

I'd likely have been a shoe-shine boy. Heck, at least I would have made more than I do today. :icon_jokercolor:

Being a retired truck driver I can see myself as a teamster hauling wagon loads of freight . Having been a paratrooper I also understand the importance of firepower . Considering the dangers back in those times it would be nice to have a helper manning an M-60 mounted in the back . Kinda like an old Rat Patrol .

I was in a previous incarnation a darn good gunsmith and inventor, why not continue on, Bob

Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

I sometimes pondered the question.
I do goldpanning, yep, it is hard work.
And,sorta living off the land.
I've thought many times,I was born in the wrong century.
Still, the living back then was much harder than now.
Those that lived back when, took their living on a day-to-day.
The goldpanning part,in the 80s up at the Indian Valley Campground,North Yuba River.
I panned for pretty much 8 hours.Got down to blacksand on each pan.
Was tired at the end of the day.

I guess I am a little different. I would have no desire to be any kind of lawman back then. Now give me a nice saloon to run with a poker game or two and I am set. If it ever happens y'all stop by and I'll buy you a drink and shoot the breeze.

I'm with Texastee - I was born in the wrong century.

I'd be one of the women who went to goldmine in Alaska (not mining the miners), but, making that nasty trek to the '49 goldfields.

Re: Your Occupation If You Lived In The 1800's

hey gang,
I would like to think I did something EXCITING..... But I have a feeling I would have been a bartender/gambler in a boomtown like Dodge City, Abilene etc. I would have most likely been a baaaaaaddddd gambler, so it's behind the bar I go. ;D ;D ;D But I would have been there when the gunfights started, and ended. I would have been there when the prospector " needed " another drink ( and I would get the map ). Of course I would have been working with all the " best " ladies of the town. And I may have been successful enough to eventually own my own bar... and ladies ;D ;D ;D ;D
