Zeros CRH LOG

After having no boxes come in last week, I got a descent box with 11 keepers plus I did some metal scrapping and bought two rare coins with the proceeds (I count it as CRH but it's obviously not in the pure sense of the hobby).

Brinks half box #63: skunk
Brinks half box #64: 3-64s, 8-40%

and here are two coins I thought would be very difficult to find in boxes 1938D and 1913P...so I basically traded a non working fridge, an old aluminum ladder, and a roll of copper wire for these beauties:

where do you scrap at?

Well...I'm back. I got my bank roll back up and did some CRH hunting. At the third bank, I found a 16-40% roll.

So, I'm going to try to get some boxes ordered for next week.

It's nice to be in the hunt again.

Merry Christmas.

Well...there is a couple of metal scrapping yards in my small town. You pull up your truck with all of your miscellaneous scrap metal (appliances, mailboxes, etc.) onto a scale. You empty it out and re weigh and they give around 10 cents a pound. The real money comes when you have higher priced stuff like copper wire (without insulation pays a lot more), aluminum, engines, and stuff like that.

It's a nice infusion of cash if you have a bunch of crap around. I have a lot less junk now (at least metal junk).

Keep on rolling!

Those double-digit silver boxes are a lot of fun. It's awesome when you're pulling a silver out of every third or fourth roll. Whenever I find a roll with a silver, I have my eight-year old come pick it out. He can spot the silver every time.
I've done some scrapping too. It's pretty much free money and requires very little effort--and a great way to convert your garbage dollars into real money by adding to your silver stack. Nice.

Thanks silverslug. Well...I hit all the major banks in town today (which is 10 out of 13 or so). Didn't find much but my son did pull a 1964 dime out of a box of dimes.

$100 mwr halves: skunk
$60 cwr halves: skunk
$250 box of dimes: 1-1964

Well...One of the banks had a teller out sick and she has some halves. So, I'll hit them again on Monday.

Keep on rolling!

Here is a pic of the dime.

Found another dime with a dull edge.

Not sure why, but I enjoy pulling out a silver dime as much as a silver half. Thanks to those dimes, you avoided a skunk for the week.

Well...my first half box order since the reboot didn't come in. So, I picked up a box of dimes instead.

1-$250 box of dimes: 2-rosies, 1-canadian 1949 (80% silver)

I'll try for some more dimes this week and some CWR's while I travel for work next week. 0.2ozt of silver is better than nothing.

Keep on rolling!

Pretty nice dime box. I'm stilling looking for my first Canadian silver. The Canadians are usually spoilers; they look like silver, but they aren't. But your Canadian must have been a pleasant surprise.

Yeah...I'll usually mutter ugh when I see that sailboat, but then I saw the date and thought I think that's silver. It turned out to be 80% silver which is .06 ozt of silver as opposed to .07 for the U.S. Silver dimes.

Did another dime box today. Pulled one last silver for the year.

I ended the year with 318 silver keepers for a total of 52.86ozt of silver. If you minus the $1000 that was stolen, I guess it's a wash but you have to add all the fun times spent with my children, high fives over cool finds, and the reward of a job well done.

Happy New Year and keep on rolling!

Well 2015 starts with a CWR hunt while on a work trip. First bank I hit had $410 cwr and I bought them thinking it was a dump but it wasn't a skunk. Pulled 5-40%. Picked a few more rolls with a final total of:

$450 cwr halves: 5-40%

I have also found that boxes in the bank vaults are usually dumps. On a few occasions I have bought boxes from the vault just to find out they are a big dump from another CRHer--evry disappointing. Butlast week I picked up a nearly full box ($480) and ended up with eight silvers. A box with five silvers is nothing to sniff at. Nice start to 2015.

Thanks silver slug. It is difficult to buy those nearly full boxes of halves without thinking they smell like a skunk, but you just never know. Also, I think sometimes some good rolls will get thrown in with s CRH dump. So, usually you gotta buy them all if your bankroll is up for it. Keep on rolling.

Well I hit one bank next to a gas station on my way back from a business trip (I wish my time table would have allowed many more stops).

$20 CWR halves: 4-40%

I hopefully have a box to pick up in the morning and hope it's a dream box.
Keep on rolling.

My half orders didn't come in this week (one bank said they forgot, and another said they were going to charge a fee). So, I just hunted around instead. I found three caches $170, $380, and $150. The last group of $150 had $70 in wrappers I had already gone through but I bought them all in hopes that the rest might have something and they had 2-40%. The $380 was a skunk. The $170 was a burned up set of halves (I've gotten theses before from the same bank).

But the burned ones had two silvers: a silver s mint 76 and a 1919 Walker.

Did they go through a house fire or something? They look like the quarters I pull out of the ground. :)

Yeah...they may have been through a house fire. Some of them seem like their inside was melted and aren't as heavy any more with a clunk sound. The bank that is selling them to me haven't given me a headsup. So, either they are just glad to get rid of them or they just aren't aware of what's inside. I was disappointed until the two silvers popped up. I'm pretty sure the 1976-s is silver but I don't have a scale.
