Weird... unless someone painted them. Maybe they were accidentally struck in platinum?

I have had one that the rim was silver, and it was odd because the whole coin had a blue tone to it....strange

they could be
1. electroplated
2. the copper in the reeding can oxidize and get silver/greenish hue to it
3. silver pain marker on the reeding
4. timzim got a new color spray :laughing9:

I really doubt this is paint at all, The rims are all in good condition, i think you would see some air pockets or something if it was painted...

I just lined them all in a stack, and the 2002 P are a tiny bit thicker than all of the rest of the coins, i picked them both out of the stack and both same date... dont know if that helps any

Any idea if they are worth more than face?

Take the edge of the worst looking one and rub it agains concrete to see if a red edge hides beneath the chrome undercoat. I have gotten a few like these and I have named them "coin teases." Also, the ping test, and weight test are always good for starters. No, there is no chance those are platinum, but thanks for all the detailed pics.

Are you in Ca? If so, I got tired of cleaning coins from a new hunter so I painted several thousand with silver rims. Got upset and figured I can piss him off by slowing his searching time down.

I agree with the electroplating answer. A good job, but electgroplated. reason? WHo knows. Maybe to sell in a collection of some sort, maybe for some event, aor maybe just practice. But electroplate. they sure would get your heart going though when you first see them! :-)
