Hey I was just wondering how many if you guys do cents, and how many boxes at one time

I have done $672 in cents. 67,200 coins. Out of that I found 272 wheat, 1 Indian head, and 10,000 copper. 14.9% copper. My opinion, cents are NOT worth the time to do. I know a lot of people on here do cents pretty heavily and will disagree. I guess the real question is why are you hunting, for fun as a hobby, to make some money, to fill up books? If you have the transportation and bankroll, do halfs without a doubt.

I do pennies. Found 499 wheats and 3 indians out of ~$1,330 worth. I don't do boxes generally. I usually just grab $5 or $10 worth when I'm picking up halves.

Four X $25 boxes per week. Ryedale user for ~ 3 years. Save the copper, dump the Zincolns. Have found three IH, hundreds of wheats (stopped counting a couple of years ago. I also have hundreds of Canadian cents, that I also keep.

I do a lot of cents. So far I have over 14,000 wheats and a few tons of copper. And 171 steel cents. Many off the magnets, including one THIS week.

After reading jrf30's response, I need to amend my totals on wheats to thousands, as well. I wasn't doing the mental arithmetic correctly. I don't think I can quite claim the tons of copper, though.

Those who know, know who the master is. :notworthy:

Wow I didn't know that many people were into hunting pennies

I don't see how people make it worth their time haha

They scrap it by the Ton, which is illegal.

I do cents (obviously.) I've done about $5,500, with just over 2000 wheats. I search by hand and it is so worth it for the varieties and errors. I try to do a box everyday sometimes two, but I just can't get my hands on enough.

I do cents. I do anywhere from 1-4 boxes a week. It depends on how much money I have left after getting a box of nickels and all the cwr they have.

No, we do NOT, and I don't appreciate the statement that what I am doing is illegal!

I have sold groupings of coins (As is) on Ebay, sold them on Craig's List, and sold them privately. Plus I have stacked quite a bit since the price came down.

As for making it worth my while, I have shown before how it makes sense, so I won't go through it all again, but I buy at 1.00 cents per coin, and have sold for 1.50 to 1.60 cents per coin. That's 50 - 60% no matter how you cut it, and with cents you can do some decent volume in short order. I've sold TOUSANDS of dollars of copper cents, and making 50% on my money while enjoying the hobby AND getting some wheats and Indian heads to boot is not a bad thing in MY eyes. But don't you DARE say that what we do is illegally scrap it by the ton. If you don't know, then say nothing or ASK.

I think your post is the most offensive post I have EVER read on Tnet, and accusing an entire group of people of doing something illegal with NO basis of saying it should get you thrown back OFF the site for while. IMHO!

I'm not sure what he was saying since he posted Copper scrap, Which is not illegal to Scrap. & has nothing to do with pennies.

Scrapping copper pennies is Illegal , But I don't see him accusing anyone
here of scrapping pennies by the ton. (I don't see the words He Scraps Pennies, She Scraps Pennies,
Or jeff of pa, or anyone else here scraps Pennies by the ton)

besides , because it is illegal, it cannot be done anyway :BangHead:

so please laugh it off
or ignore :tongue3:

I was joking, hence the picture. I apologize either way, jrf30, as you used the term ton, and I can see how you may have interpreted it a bit differently.

Also, I have a Ryedale and sort cents occasionally and have sold some on ebay/craigslist. I include myself in the "we", you've stated and the "entire group of people", as I've sorted cents. My basis of saying all this was for fun once again.

Look at that, the first sincere apology I have ever seen on this site!

Man people take things serious sometimes :p

just keep stacking, just keep stacking, stacking stacking stacking

Really? You don't think he said it to cent sorters? Let's look at it Jeff.

The "it" is specifically how people make money or make it worth their time to sort cents. Not copper tubing, but cents. That is the topic of the thread, and the topic of this question. the answer was brief. One sentence.

<<They scrap it by the Ton, which is illegal.
>>

The they MUST be the subject of the question, which is cent sorters. No other option. the fact that he posted a picture of copper tubing doesn't change the subject of the thread. Penny sorters. The "they" means people like me. Period.

<<But I don't see him accusing anyone here of scrapping pennies by the ton>> Then read it from the beginning. "I" said that I have tons of copper pennies. Someone asked how that makes financial sense for me and the others to do it, and he responded that "they" sell it by the ton, which is illegal. I think that is a pretty direct line and says he is accusing ME, among other people, of illegally selling copper cents for scrap. I know you want to keep peace, but even as a peacekeeper you shouldn't try to undo the attack that was done. You should just stop it. As for "it was a joke". Really? It was crude, that's what it was. There was no smiley face implying it was a joke. Just ANOTHER crude comment by a man who has had a history of saying nasty things on this forum.

If you want the forum to be popular, you can't allow attacks to stay on the board without removing them. So-called joke or not. The new attitude is the reason a LOT of old-timers have LEFT this board - me now too! And WE are the ones who gave ADVISE, instead of mocking others. Yep, a different attitude. Sorry you side with the insulting nasty attitude of the new CRh'er instead of the helpful one that USED to exist here. I've always appreciated your input before. I'll let it go, as you ask. I'm going to let the whole site go. Since the site has let itself go all by itself, as this once again proves.
