had the afternoon off so i made a beeline back up to my very 1st cellar holes that got me hooked on this aspect of the hobby.
a few buttons,2 tombacs,1 pewter button some broken shoe buckle frames 2 lead musketballs & 1 made of pewter.I asked this question before but never got any response on it.If lead was unavailable was it common practice to pour pewter for shot? I've dug several and just curious?
Last 3 targets were all coins.a 1865 indian head penny,a holed 1787 Connecticut copper and a ? KGI? not sure what it is? :icon_scratch:
this makes 70 IH's on the year and not far behind in the large copper dept at 65 3/4 I hope I can make 70!
see how much time was spent laying the stones in the old road.makes you appreciate how hard these colonists worked and what pride they took in their travel routes

Good days hunt
Curious though, do you ever hunt the sides of the hill next to the road? There is so much ground there I could spend all year in the one area

Great finds today Dave! :hello2:
Love the look of that shoe buckle tongue and the condition of that 1865 IH is amazing! :o

The photo shot of the colonial road is fantastic!

Best of luck to you,
Dave

yeah usually near the cellar hole i will search the banks but just wandering down the road searching the banks I haven't yet

Great mix of relics, sure is nice getting out this time of year. Global warming?.............. :laughing7:

With the exception of the indian head, thats a nice colonial hunt

Of course indian heads are always welcome to join the party :laughing7:

I have found pewter musketballs before and I have heard of settlers melting pewter and molding bullets when under attack from indians and out of lead. I would imagine the indians would carry off pewter as well when they raided on the frontier, since powder and lead was sometimes hard to get, and pewter was the next best thing to lead.

wow had no idea anyone ever used flagstone for roads in the states it will be cool to see what you find next to the road

Steady Steady Steady... that's what got you the GWs and Chain Cent! The next great find is probably not too far away.

Yes, pretty sure King George I, 2nd issue - 1719-1724

Thanks IP! the back is shot(during cleaning when wet i could see faint outline of the seated lady with the shield) but enough of the obverse showing to id it

Yep...I used to be strickly Civil War era minded until this year. I started hunting woods and old home sites and I love the finds I'm pulling out of the ground. I am hooked as well to this aspect of hunting. All in all though in my years of hunting I think half the fun and enjoyment is just being out and about with nature.

Ill be hitting that old rd hard like every where :notworthy:. Look like a very good spot to hit for a life time.

Your finds never seize to amaze me. Another excellent hunt. Congrats

The things I would do for just "1" Large copper a yr. :notworthy:

Good job !

I do appreciate all that hard work, I think about it often how hard those guys had it. Today we run to the store 5 or 6 times a week, back then you "made do" maybe there wasn't even a local store, if you were some of the very first settlers.

I missed yesterday, and it was nice, got one copper today though, first time I ever broke one in half getting it out, funny clip.

70 just around the corner, you can do it.
