100 YEAR OLD COIN SPILL .....AND THERE'S MORE IN THE HOLE!!!

OK folks, this is a new one for me.......In my town there is a small/medium grassy knoll area near the town cemetery. I found a nice 1906 Barber dime there 2 nights ago and went back there again last night. I started detecting at 7pm and around 7:15pm I found an 1890 Indian.I swung my loop (XLT)just to the left of that hole and there was a large (2x2) area that was sounding off, a little broken up and I almost walked away from it but it pinpointed at 3.5 inches so I dug and out came an 1880 Indian and the rest is history.......FOR THE NEXT 30 MINUTES I PROCEEDED TO PULL OUT 13 INDIANS AND 4 DIMES!!!!....It was now about 7:50pm and very dark so I had to leave......On one of my last handfuls of dirt I pulled out a pretty large (2 inches) piece of green glass and it got me thinking all night that maybe I have found coins that someone buried in a jar and the jar broke......the hole is still sounding off loud and clear and it is raining hard here (Mass) so I'm not sure when I can go back...I am hoping this afternoon.....I will keep you posted....I hope you enjoy the pics!

Doubt I could've left either... or slept that night if so Would've had to go back and do a Patrick Earl night time recon mission... 8)

I personly wouldhave went home long enough to get a flash light an a baggie for the machine control panel an been back out there that night... Anyways I really just post to give you this site for coin prices..far as I know they are current an they keep this site updated... when you go into this site you'll want to click on the collectors price guide (it's the only one that is free) when you find the coin you want ,you want to divide the price by half to get the selling price if your going to a dealer to sell it..if your selling it your self then that is the max price you can get for the coin.. If you never graded a coin There is a place on the site to tell you how to grade.. This is very important to getting the correct price...

nice finds , Im suprised no one had mentioned this but how close was this cemetery? sounds like an eithics issue

I agree to the extent that if you start digging bones up then you probably went deep enough otherwise no problem. Ethics issues have to do with intention. If the intention was not to disturb the burial sites and it was done by accident due to an unmarked or misplaced grave then how is that an ethics issue.

On the other hand, if the intention was to dig up a Indian grave for the pots and jewelry or digging of a soldier's grave for the buckles and weapons or other things then THAT is an ethics issue.

This is my 2 cents. YMMV

Congrats on the awesome cache find! Put a bag over the control unit and a piece of tape over the speaker hole and the XLT is rain proof, I hunted that way with mine for years. HH, Mike

Holy Cow! Put that metal detector down and dig a 4 foot circle slowly working toward the middle. Shovelfuls of dirt placed on a homemade screen sifter is what you need to do. When you are done, do the final checkout with the MD. Nice finds, sir!
