Welcome and looks like you're on your way.

One bit of advice? Unless you're trying to pay bills with your finds, forget about "worth anything". Enjoy and learn.

Thanks for sharing.

thank you all, I appreciate it. I have not md on siesta. was thinking about it tomorrow. I like the woods and open field aspect more than the water aspect...i feel more free and feel like ill find more intresting things like old coins and items that could be worth alot to collectors..i love the rush of every beep!

The padlock is from a piece of Caterpillar heavy equipment and not real old. I used to be a heavy equipment mechanic and the cool thing about those is that they all take the same key. That way a field mechanic like I was could go out in the field and work on anyones machine without them needing to provide a set of keys. They are used on the various compartment covers on every machine CAT makes. That is the exact style they used in the 80s. I have several of those locks and use them in my garage among other places because I don't have to mess around figuring out what key fits which lock.

Welcome to TreasureNet. :)

Since you say you are new to metal-detecting, here's a bit of free friendly advice, based on the photo of your freshly-washed finds in the bottom of a kitchen sink. Do not wash the dirt off your finds in a sink, because doing that repeatedly will eventually cause the dirt to build up in your house's drainpipes and clog them, resulting in an expensive visit by the Roto-Rooter company. (Trust me about that, please... I was a Plumber's assistant for about a year.) Better to wash your digging-finds outside, or in bucket or a large bowl filled with water. Afterward, you dump the water and dirt out the back door.

One other bit of advice, since you are new here. The best place on the internet to get unknown digging-finds CORRECTLY identified is at another category in T-Net's "Our Discoveries" section... the "What Is It?" forum.

May you have good fortune in your metal-detecting trips.

If I was you I wouldn't wash the axe head with water it will just make it rust more.. That padlock is very cool
