I went on another little camping excursion, this time I visited our neighboring state of South Dakota. On the first day my hunting buddy Mike followed me up to the small town where I was setting up camp. This town is the sight of a long forgotten fair grounds but not a very well kept secret, it's had a lot of attention and improvements over the years. Mike got a Merc and some wheats right away, all I could find was clad. We spent a couple hours there before we decided to head for the next town. At the park there I got the '52d Washington, the '20d and '40 Mercs, the sterling ring and 5 wheats plus the "Good for $1.00 token". Mike and I parted ways and I headed back to camp and hunted the park there till sun down and managed the '87, '90, and '06 Injuns and 2 wheats.
I started day 2 (my 14 silver day) at another small town park and got a pair of 1912 Barber dimes and a '61d Roosey plus the Cracker Jack token and 8 wheats before I decided to try another town. At this point I thought my luck at finding the hot spots had finally run out.
I was a little skeptical about this next place because I know that another detectorist lives here and later found out that a Garrett dealer lives there too. I thought, what the heck I'll give it a shot anyway. The ground was as hard as concrete but I spent the next 5 hours there digging silver. I dug my first Canadian Fish scale or 5 cent piece, an 1897 (the photo has a dime for size), the '03 Barber quarter, '08 Barber dime, '17s, '17d, '20d, '37d, '41, '41d, '43d and '43d Mercs and 14 wheats.
On my way home I met up with Jim and we went back to the park that produced all the silver the day before but I must have been pretty thorough because neither one of us could get any silver, I found the '02, and '03 Injuns before we took off for the next place on my route back home. This place gave up the '14 Barber dime and a 43d Merc plus 4 wheats. The '29d Merc and the 1919 and 2 no date Buffalos are from last Sunday. That wrapped up another great weekend for me and if the weather holds out I might try again next week. Thanks for looking and HH
