I want to Thank Jeff of Pa for identifying the swedish 1 or coin.
And thanks to Mackaydon for the history of AF--The king who ate himself to death.

Perfect weather here for hunting the fields. The past couple of afternoons I have been hunting a field where an old farmstead stood many years ago.

These are my finds. The large coin is a 1761 Swedish 1 or coin.
The small piece of silver looks like part of the handle of a spoon--not sure.
I could use some help IDing the buttons. The backs of the small ones are toasted---Not too old I think.

Thanks for looking and best luck to all.

[Here is Mackaydon's story about the king.]

Great find.
BTW, the AF stands for Adolphus Frederick, king of Sweden between 1751 and 1771.His bio appears here: http://www.halfvalue.com/wiki.jsp?topic=Adolf_Frederick_of_Sweden
I couldn't resist adding this 'morsel' from that source: "The king died of digestion problems on February 12, 1771 after having consumed a meal consisting of lobster, caviar, sauerkraut, kippers and champagne, which was topped off with 14 servings of his favourite dessert: semla served in a bowl of hot milk. He is thus remembered by Swedish school children as "the king who ate himself to death."
Don.........

Thanks for the info and the Pic Relicdude----Hope I can ID it.

Those are nice digs Merf.

That field will bring you back in time. A long time ago here for the states. That button is a really nice one. Pre 1799 for sure. I'd scour that field with no disc on and a larger coil.

Well in this case maybe not... ;D

Nice digs Merf...Great Stuff,

Thanks Nick----That King was a good eater-----If He had the good fortune to enjoy Mrs. Pappageorgio's cooking he would have eaten more and not lasted as long, no doubt.

He was a handsome man.

Thanks Kirk------It was a shocker to find one that old this far west.
I had no idea what it was [ and not even sure it was a coin] until I got it home and cleaned it up.

WTG Merf!!

Nice Huntin

Hey! I found one of those too! I can't say where though because apparently there are laws about metal detecting there...... Great find!

Merf,
What's the story behind the field you found these great finds?
Did you import the field from Crusader?

I am not sure TY-----There was a farmstead there in the early 1900s---I don't know what was there before that. Maybe a trappers cabin. It was a wooded area until about 1830.

Merf, that coin is a true Colonial. That is awesome! By the way, do you and EDDE detect together?

I am thinking maybe that school site was pounded back in the 80s.
It was torn down in 1979 I heard. It would be worth checking out.
Did you talk to Mr. B------r yet?

Thanks Kirk----Yes , ED and I detect togeather sometimes. I think I have more free time than Ed.

P.S.----Do you have any ideas on the identity of that button?

Man, what a great hunt! As old as that coin is, I'd expect it was something a Swedish settler had gotten from his grandpa before travelling from the old country--not something someone would expect to spend here.

Nice Indian, too, and some great relics.
