The funny thing is that it was so shallow. That's probably why it's in the condition it is. The ground was well drained, and it never stayed wet for extended periods. It's my 5th large cent to date, my oldest, and i the best condition.

Our little town was just 13 years old when this was minted.

If this weren't "dug"....it'd be worth 4-6 thousand bucks. Easily the best coin I have dug...ever.

I found out this morning, by talking to the town's historian, that until about 20 years ago, this little cemetery had become completely wooded, at which time the borough cleared it. The property is now maintained by the borough. That pretty much explains how it could have escaped the previous metal detecting crazes....and probably why it was so shallow.
