Found in Ky. Only 2 inches down. This is my first post. Will post pictures when I figure out how.only have a dumb phone. Had no clue what I just found, called friend to google it.,said its rare and valuable.the bad news is has two deep pits in it .......February 28. Have not posted again after getting slammed 4 times hunting graveyard.the coin was found several feet from a grave. I am native american and I see a huge difference digging a 3 in. hole and the looters digging 250 Indian graves near Uniontown,Ky. Leaving the graves open and bones on top of ground. Contact Mr. Peabody Coal and ask him why he dug hundreds, probably thousands of Indian graves and deposited in a spoil bank. The shovel operators were told if they saw bones keep on stripping so they would not be shut down for days. I will post a pic when able

Jerry,
I was one that previously took exception to your post and apologize. It's not my place to judge anyone else. That's and incredible find that it one of the best I've ever seen posted. Congrats

You ever get the Overton variety?

It looks a little shiny...did you polish it?

Great find, thanks for sharing. Should make banner easy

Outstanding find for sure, its in great condition Banner for sure..

when i was a newbie i used to hunt grave yards also, so i cant really comment on that. i stopped that years ago after reading an article on
this hobby and areas that deserve respect. Mr Peabodys actions do not justify yours though. ... although its understandable that the older finds are at the older places but its not the kind of place where people like to see others digging. it is a nice find. should bring a nice return.

Very very nice coin Jerry. Congrats on the find of a life time. Welcome to TNet.

Sorry if some of the other members have been less than welcoming.

Absolutely beautiful coin for sure....but.....

Banner? hmmm, thought that was traditionally reserved for those with a little more of a track record, as opposed to a newbies first post....and in that spirit, I am withholding my banner vote. No offense.

Dave , You raise a point that I think is worthy of some discussion - just what are the rules regarding banner nominees ? I remember
specifically raising this question some months ago , and searching the T-net homepage ,clicking on anything that looked like it
might clarify this - I never found a satisfactory answer to the question . Perhaps a moderator could be helpful here .

So your saying if someone with less than "how many" posts comes on here and posts a clearly dug 1688 silver st. patrick farthing that it would not make banner? I'll admit this post has been...um...different...but thats one hell of a dug rare coin.

I didnt realize that the number of posts went hand in hand with "banner finds". I completely understand your position, but if someone came on here with a rare dug coin with all the prauvenaunce (sp) it would make banner easily, one or ten thousand posts below their names. no offense.

As stated earlier it has been too long between the original find post and the pictures being posted to be considered for banner.

And this is one of the many reasons you don't start 'slamming' someone just because they're not as computer savvy as you are, or you think they're taking too long to conform to your idea of the way things should be done.

I would like to apologise to One Eye Jerry for a few miscreants we have in Tnet. Believe me when I say that they are definately in the minority.

Hey, perhaps I'll be the first one to vote BANNER on this. (lol)

And.......maybe not. I didn't realize there were so many posts. Well, in a more perfect world, it would definately make banner. (But, I DID vote). (lol)

Great find One eyed Gary ! 8-)

Thank You Treasure Hunter and jeff of pa , for the clarification , Is there a place where I can read these rules governing banner nominees?
I looked some months ago and was unable to find them - Thank You for your help !

There is a 6 month gap between original post and when pictures were posted, that alone disqualifies the find.

Find has to be made after a member has joined, been found by member, not a friend or family member and any find posted shortly after joining is suspect to being qualified...

what ever happened to the coin ....??

its a small eagle ( which is a bit scare ) and people do look for it at show(s)

even thought it has environmental damage, its still a nice find ....

if i was you, i would send it off to PCGS or NGC ( coin graders ) and have them put in a slab along w/ a grade ( looks to be good to fine condition ) ... IMO
