1796 and 1799 LARGE CENTS

[Rockhoppernc]

My buddy found the the other day and wish I had made it out with him that day.

[Old Dude]

Those beauties must have been woods finds. Fields aren't as kind to the old coppers. Thanks for sharing.

Wow both draped bust! That 1799 is a big money coin. Hopefully it can be cleaned some more to get rid of that gunk. Will need some careful hands on that one

[Evolution]

Testing123 is correct. The 1799 is a big money coin. Congrats to your buddy.

I'm just curious if these were found in the Asheville area. If so there is hope for me yet to find an old coin like those.

I don't think I've ever seen a 1799 posted here! Don in SJ will be interested in seeing that one!!!

BIG congrats! That is a banner coin!

Simply amazing coins- Congrats!! Not to beat the proverbial dead horse, but that 1799 is worth some serious $$- be VERY careful if you're going to clean it...

Those are outstanding Large Cents.

Great finds!

[TNGUNS]

Wow, now those had to get the heart pumping. Voting BANNER. Congrats

[Rockhoppernc]

My buddy is looking for the best way to clean them, Please chime in here...
i believe it was maybe an encampment from one of the skirmishes in McDowell Co Nc. I can't find anything on an actual battle fought there.

Also found these a foot away.

[Greylock]

Those are some awesome finds. Definitely banner worthy but are we voting for a find made by the OP's friend?

BIG congrats! That is a banner coin!

Yeah, Don in SJ glad to see one that is a no doubt about it one, several have posted over the years saying they were 1799, but doubtful on most, if any really were. I found one a couple years ago, but all details were decent except where the date was! It took hours of studying, and help from a former big time Large Cent collector to say it was one, so I have one, but with the last digit unreadable......... I do hope that does clean well, that year IS the year to find for Draped Bust Large Cents! CONGRATS!
