Chris and I went on a "Permission Mission" on Saturday. We walked up to a circa 1830s brick home and knocked. Once the landowners came out, we knew they were going to be the nicest people. The man and woman were in the upper 80s. Once he found out why we were there, he laughed and said, "Times must be tough for you to want to find coins in my hay field. I want to share the pot of gold, though." 
The wife was smiling the whole time once I told her about the original homesite on their property. They were amazed that we knew that! This is what the hobby is about. Meeting new people and putting a positive light on our hobby.
Here are Chris and Kirk swinging away in the site. All of the artifacts were found within a few feet of the standing corn.
Within the first minute of finding the iron patch, I got the first signal: a 1797 Draped Bust large cent. The second signal was another Draped Bust large cent found by Chris. I ended the day with an 1820 Coronet, a dateless Coronet, and one button. We didn't even touch the site yet, so there should be a pile more when we go back in late October to hunt the corn field.
