Nice find. I've dug that button (coat size) up here in Pennsylvania on two occasions and both of them are pretty rough :(

Thanks Steve. I'm happy I could make it out. Pewter doesn't fare real well here usually.

what a great find...I'm finding buttons from 1812 era also, I wish I could stumble on one of these.

How did it read, being pewter?

Thanks guys.
I'm not sure what you mean.."how did it read?"
I know pewter..I have alot of pewter buttons... if you mean the signal..very weak.. 80% tin 20% copper.
I use a very old analog detector with zero bells and whistles.. I however ..know the tones like second nature and feel like its an extension of myself

Thanks man! I like your name.. I spent part of my childhood in West Rutland Vermont.

That button is a really nice find and thanks for the help with the point yesterday now I'm extremely interested in native artifacts.

Your so welcome.. I think antiquity interests us all.. when it gets into the thousands of years that's a pretty cool feeling to be the next person to hold it.

Hey GB,
In your Fla hunting do you come across many 1812 and Seminole artifacts? There seems to be such a diversity of subjects, and time periods to hunt. HH

Thank you both.
To answer your question..there are Seminole war forts scattered all over Florida ..the men and their artifacts were scattered even more..there were three wars labeled as Seminole wars..the third was really more of a revolt and a threat..troops even came in from Georgia and Louisiana for the second Seminole war 1835-1842.
A lot of their uniforms including the buttons were manufactured much earlier. That accounts for the majority of 1812 era uniform buttons found locally.
Alot of history here.. from native American to the 1500's Spanish occupation.. British occupation.. the French were in the mix.. a second Spanish occupation.. shipwrecks..ect.. I love my state.
Some pretty good fishing and diving too. :-)

Even though that button is a little crusty the pattern on it is very pretty. Glad you dug it even though the signal was weak,ya never know.

I supposed since they are not today's finds anymore.. I may as well show a few recent finds here.
