Kirk, Chris, and I went back to the same site that we hit last Sunday. I dug the 1788 Connecticut copper that was struck over a Nova Constellatio there. Chris dug a VA halfpenny, 1796 large cent, and a Coronet cent. Kirk dug the 1844 political medal there as well.

Here is Kirk pinpointing a signal in the iron patch.

I decided to snap some other pictures of the site. Here is a pic that I call "Looking out into the Pennsylvania frontier."

Here is another view of the surrounding land from where the home sat. This early settler sure had a beautiful view.

Once again, just like last Sunday, within the first 10 minutes of swinging, I got an iffy nickel reading. After I flipped the dirt out, it was still in the hole and reading in the high penny range. I was thrilled when I saw what it was: a 1754 King George II farthing. It is our second farthing this year as a group.

I also found this interesting wax seal. I can't make out what the letters say surrounding the bust of the man. If anyone knows who it is, I would greatly appreciate the needed information!

Re: Farthing + 1824 General Lafayette Wax Seal Commemorating His Return to the U.S.

WTG Kyle, 100% agreement, don't know how it could be anything other than a seal commemorating Lafayette! :icon_thumright:
Without a doubt your best find of the year, not colonial but just as good since it represents such a Rev War figure in our history.

Don

:o Beautiful General LaFayette piece :hello2: Banner!

There is no doubt that is a commemorative to La Fayette dating to 1824. I dug a LaFayatte button which is a one piece but a seal blows a button away. It is a rare find you made, I have never even heard of a LaFayette seal.!!

Keith, I am totally ecstatic right now!

I think this is probably my best find all year!

The attached link says how he got a hero's welcome when he arrived in New York Harbor!

Got my BANNER vote! Let's see if you can break the curse! ;D

Let's say your best relic. We can't have this competing with the CT. ;D

Lafayette was a MAJOR player in the rev war and GW treated him like a son and depended on him like almost no other! He is a very interesting character and I would be thrilled if I dug what you just dug today!!!

The best find of the year. No doubt this site is one to go into our clubs recordbook. Gen Lafayette was a hero for the American revolution. What a find. The best relic we ever found. Congratulations for making the banner Kyle. If anything would make the banner, this would. Awesome.

I need to find some experts to email. I would like to find out how rare it is.

I am thankful to have dug it. I can't remember anyone else posting one before.

This is another great testimony to the posting members of this site ! An incredible find which will soon be on the banner !! A wonderful post revolution tribute item to our first commander and chief . A great piece of history dug from the ground today !! Banner ! MaineRelic

I want to personally send out a hearty "Thank You" to umrgolf2010 for identifying this rare artifact. This one should be gracing the Banner very shortly, so I put my vote in. It definitely needs the proper recognition. :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumright:

boy Kyle that is a super find!!

I always love finding those old waxseals, or fobs, whichever you call them they are a real treat to find.

I was lucky enough to find a similar one back in '03, mine is a little different but still a great tribute

I'd be wondering who lived at this site to have such an interesting artifact! :icon_thumright:

I agree - banner all the way on this one. Great save from the PA soils, Kyle!
