I got out for about 3 hours Sunday and had a bit of luck. Here's the front of the 1877cc seated dime, she was deeeeep! I was using the Explorer SE with a Explorer II coil (bobbing eyebrows).

Here's the reverse, it was packed with dirt so I had to wait until I got home to see if it was a cc and it was!!! CC's are my favorite mint marks because they are hard to find on the east coast and they are the only two letter mint marks, plus I just like them!

Here are some other finds. I think that's a nearly featureless two cent piece, I tried all kinds of mojo but it was a lost cause. That's the good side by the way. Also found a couple old jewelry thing-a-ma-bobs, one heavily corroded 1887 IH, and a couple wheats which I have gained a new respect for after finding the 1909s. :D

That's one great looking seated, congrats. That thing on the right looks like one of those mini liscense plate tags for your key ring they used to give you.

BEAUTIFUL COIN !

congrats !

Excellent finds Charles, like that dime. I understand you using the II coil over the new one :)

Sweet, I think gold might be waiting for you at that spot. A guy (Cecil) told me that in order to Find gold with the SE you have to dig the low sounds. Right after that as we hunted near each other I found a Silver ring with 5 red stones and he found a deep mercury dime.

Congrats on the Seated Carson City mint dime!! I also love the cc coins!

Beautiful seated dime!

I have an EXPII on the way. Hopefully it will be here by this weekend. Just curious, why do you like the II coil and how deep was the dime?

Congratulations!

love the cc dime, nice mixture of other coins too! hey ridley...wtg on the ex 2 on the way...i love mine...not sure about that wot coil though...just got ione and its pretty hard to use...gets heavy, and so far...hard to pinpoint with for me...so far just used it at a park...maybe the beach or relic hunt would be better for the wot!

Nice seated! What does the CC represent, the mint mark? HH, Mike

I like the Explorer II style coil better than the slimeline SE coil. No I didn't mispell it either, I hate the SE coil. Scrub the ground with the SE coil, get it right down there flat on the ground where it belongs never mind the bumps and depressions in the grass and when the falsing finally drives you bonkers you can turn your sens down to 16 or leave it at 26 and go back to the Explorer II coil, it will seem like an old friend. It also seems just as hot on small targets by the way.

I also felt I was not getting good depth with the SE coil, it was ticking me off pretty bad. I dug a large musket ball which normally blast my headphones off, it was barely a peep on the SE coil. I'm not surprised that this weekend after switching to an Explorer II coil at the same park the deeeep targets started to appear and the signals were strong like I'm used to.

PS: cc = Carson City

Charles, as soon as I heard that the SE had a thinner lighter coil, I figured one of the best features of the Explorer were downgraded from all the complaints about weight, but yet that coil has been the toughest and most durable coil I have used in 28 years of detecting. I hesitate to upgrade to an SE later on, and hope maybe when I am ready, to possibly upgrade to the Explorer II instead of the SE....Then again, maybe by the time I am ready to upgrade there will be a Explorer SEII on the market! ::)
