A little late posting this but hey, better late than never.

I tried to hook up with Dan for a ‘berg hunt but our schedules didn’t match. Also, Nate had other plans. Anyway, solo I went for a few hours. I cleared some brush and within the first hour I found 3 silver coins and a silver spoon. ;D

The Merc was all caked over with dirt so I couldn’t see the date. On the drive home I was thinking that it could be a 1916D. $$$$$. Well when I got home and started cleaning the coins I started to see what looked like a 1916! Immediately time appeared to stand still and I was oblivious to everything else. I cleaned it some more and verified it was a 1916 in excellent shape. I flipped it over and carefully cleaned the back. My out of body experience ended when I didn’t see the D. Still a nice find. :) It’s the first 1916 Nate and I have found.

The silver spoon turned out to be a nice find. It has a patent date of 1909 and dated 1915.

Finally, a picture of the girl who broke my heart. :'( She no longer has any interest in metal detecting. Never mind she was only 11 and only did it for about a month or two. ;) :D Maybe some day she will return…. My daughter just tuned 16 and I’m sure this is what she was wishing before blowing out her candles. ;D

Bob,
What a cool post. Cleaning that Merc coin was probably like watching them call 5 out of 6 of your numbers on a lottery ticket. :'(
This a VERY nice Merc. Congrats on all your finds.
Sorry Nate didn't make it, but I'm pretty sure I would have gone for the girls too instead of going MDing. ;)
Like father like son though, you were BOTH working on bush great finds. ;D
You have a beautiful looking daughter too. (Keep Kirk away)
Maybe if you can find a detector that has an IPOD and cell phone attachment on it, she may go? ;D
Great post,
MM
You don't have to worry about Nephew Kirk where your daughter is concerned, he has tunnel vision and the only way a beautiful woman catches his eye is if she is wearing a Whites metal detecting shirt and if she volunteers to dig his holes for him. I believe that once this happens she will have herself a nice catch. After all he is related to me. I'm writing this from personal experience since that is how my new wife landed me. Uncle Zeus

Sweet finds Mirage... That is the nicest dug 1916 merc I've seen... While reading the post, I sure was hoping you were going to say the D mint was there...

Great finds once again and I think that spoon is the best find of the day,I know a lot of people collect those looks like you can start as well. Your photography is simply wonderful what camera do you use? You must be holding the camera in your hand how do you keep the pics from getting blurry? Do you zoom in from a distance or magnify and crop the pics,or do I just need to take a course? And another marble,Ive been trying to keep my eye out for them like you told me too and actually I found my first one since I used to dig bottles,I'll be keeping my eye out for them and Im sure you will as well. I think we need to get together for a midwestern hunt, some of you guys from OH and there are several around IN and maybe some of the guy from up around Chicago could get together up around NW IN or something,HH...Shoot

Thanks for all the compliments.

lol - that is funny. It would be fun to have your wife as your detecting partner. :)

Gregg, I use cotton swabs with ammonia. First a 10 second ammonia soak and then a little scrubbing with the swab. Then coat with some olive oil. These wheat pennies were found in "kind" soil so they turn out nice.

Bob, it is nice having a daughter. Too bad they have to grow up. Hope you are recovering quickly.

Nice digs Bob!! My daughter is 18,she hardly talks to me anymore, I feel your pain. HH

Bob thanks for the reply. Also wanted to mention I also always enjoy your posts! :)

Hey,

Does that spoon really have a name on it? wow, now that would stink as a birthday present. but hey, maybe that was cute...back in the olden days....wow, they were weird. dont knock it till you try it i suppose; hmm i'll have to test it on someone....well, i hope nate likes spoons! haha only kidding.

Just in case nate didnt give her my message, u can wish Rachel a belated happy birthday for me. tehe, i have that shirt. and by the way, that's what EVERY girl has on her mind.

p.s. whoever mentioned the detector with an iPod and cell phone.....man, i would totally buy one; however, what would u call it? iTector? sweet.

p.s.s. sry, i'm not good with technology, and i dont know how to quote someone, but like, MM said:

ya, nate better not be finding girls....hmm, suspicious. lol.

Great finds, keep up the sweet work!

HH all

everybody's best friend,
Jill

She will be back in a few years.
Don't choke on that silver spoon bud!!
Just kidding.
Happy hunting,Jim

very nice stuff.

Great post Mirage . Your finds are really nice and dont worry about your daughter...You gave her something to fall back on as she grows older. Alot of young women just need to find their way first, then they come home to what they know and appreciate it even more.
