I got out to one of my hunting spots today and pounded it for 8 hrs.
I got the 1905 Indian Head Cent first and then the 1918-s Standing Liberty Quarter
that was on my wish list. Yes it's my first Standing Liberty and not to bad if I may say
so myself.
I also got a big button and some other things.

I got the SLQ back from ANACS. VF-20 Damaged.
Now it's going to Heritage Auction Galleries.
sorry but with the glare can't read..it definitely was a 1918/7? VF books at 5500.00 with it being damaged anything 2500.00 + is a good deal to me... did you or are you putting a reserve on it? if i was you I would... in case you don't know what reserve means..it means that if you put your reserve at 3000.00 an the bidding doesn't go that high you do not have to sell but if you put in without a reserve an the highest bid is 100.00 no matter what actual value the coin is YOU MUST sell it for 100.00

I know what reserve means $3,000.

Check your standing liberty very closely an post a very close pic of the date I think you might not just have just a 1918 S It's 1918 over 7 (meaning they stamped the 8 over the 7 froma 1917 SLQ incase you didn't know what that meant) If so that is a 1800.00 + Quarter!!!!!!!!! (1800.00 is the very least it's worth if it is a 8over7)

That is right, here is what came off PCGS site: 1918/7-S 1,900 3,600 7,500 (1900 being a grade of 'good' I believe. Awesome coin.

It has a few marks on it one below the B and one on right leg and a couple between the legs . I thought it was done when it was redated. I read that some were.

This is what I dream of finding a coin that is really rare. It will definitely make me continue to be careful as to how I handle a find. With the pointers of today we have less a chance of damaging such a grand find as this.
I watched a guy on ebay find a coin similar to this one he was using a fisher 75 but still scarred the coin getting it out the ground all I can say use that pinpointer to locate when you get in close to insure you don't turn a 5k coin into a 1k. Your hard work paid off you did a fabulous job 8 hours detecting what a day. :notworthy:

Thanks cdltpx. I have damaged a few coins in the past and out in the woods I dig around the target to loosen the sandy soil. I don't use a pinpointer. At my age the less I haul around the better. I even empty the change out of my pockets. Good luck to you on finding a rare coin there out there in the woods. roger

I don't know how Heritage works a reserve. But at Stacks, if you have a reserve of 3,000 and it doesn't sell, but your starting price was at 2,000, YOU pay 10% of the STARTING, or 10% of the highest bid under your reserve price, to get your coin back. Be careful on your reserve and starting price. If you want it to sell, put a starting price you are comfortable with, and NO reserve. BEEN THERE. Watch the fine print when you sign your contract. GOOD LUCK!

Good advice Hogge, I never used a online auction house yet so I wasn't aware of the hidden fees...

If you don't need the money don't sell.. coins that are graded by top grading services only go up in time...

I know some of you are interested in how much I got for this 1918/17-s Standing Liberty Quarter. I sent it to Heritage Auction Galleries and got a call asking if I wanted to put it on the auction or sell it. I ask how much and he said I will call you right back. He called and said $2000.00 and I said I'll take it.
I thought he sounded over joyed and very happy. He said he would send the check that very minute.
I got the check and Deposeted in the bank. I know it may have brought more but I needed the cash now. When you think about it $2000.00 was pretty good for a dug and damaged coin.

Roger,

Once again thanks for the follow through.
So very many of these threads get started and left behind
never to be finished, I find it quite refreshing to have the whole story.

Glad you got your price Buddy.
Congrats.
